So do you only take medications that have not be studied in double blind placebo controlled studies that have been reviewed by the FDA and published in peer reviewed journals? Like those things that talk about a kiwi curing cancer or supplements*?
*not intended to treat or cure any condition (of course they have to add this now because they're 99.9% bullshite scams)

Lobby doctors and entertain them with trips paid for by pharma to prescribe cure.
Pharma hasn't been able to take doctors on trips...or shite, even give them a free pen, for years and years. This is #fakenews

The cost to bring a new drug to market now is roughly $1.6 billion, and roughly 9 out of every 10 compounds explored fail to make it to market at some point (development costs that companies simply lose). So, yeah, when a drug gets marketing approval, the company needs to recoup some costs.
Any drug that "creates another problem" will often not make it to market if what it's creating is worse than the impact of what it's treating.
But I'm guessing most of this information will be dismissed because random hyperbole is more fun to believe.

In depression there are a ton of options and classes so no one should go without treatment. And the vast majority of the market is generics so maybe $5 a month for therapy.

Right but when depressed one doesn’t exactly feel like seeking it out. It’s tough

The US blows every other country out of the water when it comes to popping anti depressants
People aren't getting treated, they're getting medicated

Agreed. That's why caregivers are so important. It's devastating.
I worked on a product that launched a couple of years ago, and we had videos of people that had positive experiences on the drug. Well we came to find out that we had to take one of the videos down. Why? Well, one of the women had stopped taking it and had a recurrence of an episode and ended up killing herself.
I gotta admit, I find it kind of funny that we've got people in this thread talking about the US being overmedicated, depressed people being dramatic or weak and just needing to eat better...yet I'd bet my next paycheck those are some of the same people who were yellilng "better mental health treatment is the ONLY answer, not gun control!!" in the Florida shooting threads. Funny how the narrative changes and they argue against themselves

Yeah diet and exercise could cure so much of this crap but people would rather be fat and take pills.

No, diet and excercise do not cure actual depression. They can help, but they do nothing to change the negative feedback loop, especially if it's a chemical imbalance

I mean just because diet and exercise would work for a lot of people doesn't mean it's the end all be all answer, obviously there are still some situations where wires get crossed and medical intervention is required. I don't think schizophrenics could cure themselves with effort of will, nice straw man though

They absolutely can, there's data backing that shite up. Again it's not universal but would work for a lot of people

Human beings have been hunter/gatherers for most of their existence, it makes complete sense that when they are left to their own devices sitting in front of a computer for 50 to 60 hours a week they go a tad nihilistic. Death, loss, sadness, and other feelings cannot be dwelled over when you literally will die if the plants aren't tended to or the hunt is not completed.

There's being sad and in a bad mood, and there's a depressive episode. Diet and exercise help both, but depression is a clinical state. For the vast majority of patients there are few to no side effects with the treatment options, and many do not cause weight gain.

You literally just agreed with my exact point in your previous post

My thought would be that's it's also vastly underreported or diagnosed. If a country has very few doctors, very poor medical medical care and few/no medical records, it's not a stretch to imagine that most conditions are far less "common" in those countries.

It just sucks when anxiety and depression decide to hold hands and ruin my week.
Oh you're tired? Well frick how are you supposed to actually do a good job? I know that report is alreay going to be submitted late, but shite if your supervisor needs detailed reasons why you'll never think of something smart. Get a good night of sleep and then do it.

And I agreed with it in the subsequent post....
You just denied the fact outright which is silly

ya, depression is largely unrelated to circumstance and often to sense of purpose.

I have been diagnosed with depression, and only through the sheer willpower and drive to not show my kids what my dad showed me do I continue on every day.
I generally hate myself and feel like a failure. All day, every day, no matter what is going on. I stay off the meds because it makes me a zombie unable to feel anything. Feeling bad is better than feeling nothing, so I just soldier on, put on a smile and continue pretending like everything is cool. I fight with alcohol because it is one of the only ways to temporarily get relief from the feeling, so I have to really watch my drinking. Can't do drugs because of my job, so that helps.
Depression is real, and you will never understand it if you don't experience it. Those who have family members who go through it have a vague idea because it indirectly affects them, but they don't truly know.
I believe that some people are not strong enough to deal with it on their own, so drugs and therapy are the key. I am lucky enough to have the motivation to push through it knowing it isn't real, but some aren't. Some people give up. I happen to hate myself enough to basically tell myself "frick you pussy, get up and provide for your family and give them what they deserve in a father / husband", but the struggle is there.
A little compassion for people with depression goes a long way. My wife is a saint.

I would say we are over medicated and under counseled. Talking to someone that knows what they are doing and can help you understand your triggers (anger, depression, anxiety, etc) will help way more than just trying to medicate the problem.
