they might just use the Airbnb as a place to sleep at the end of the day, while ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft allow them at travel to other neighborhoods and avoid exploring the one in which they’re staying.

Also depends on how walkable the area is. For instance my AirBnB neighbors have to walk 2 or 3 blocks in 100 degree heat for a restaurant. That is doable.

Now imagine they rented in the hood. 20 or 30 blocks to get to instagrammable restaurants. frick that.

If other cities are like BR, then there isn't much local economy near black neighborhoods. If you chose to stay in a predominately black neighborhood in BR then you would have few places nearby to go and eat at that were not fast food.

It isn't even an issue of not feeling safe. It seems having options nearby is more important.

Crime is the #1 reason for racial issues, IMO.

You can make a pretty solid argument that past racial issues, notably Jim Crow, are the reason for higher crimes rates in black communities.

I would not have thought there were many Airbnb in the hood.

You cannot be serious.

The "whiteies" have done everything they can-affirmative action, deseg, etc for nearly 75 years. And the poor, blacks keep blaming other people.

Guess what-my grandparents were fricked over left and right in other countries, came here, and they they they.. GOT A JOB. Holy fricking shite what a bold thing to do

If they do their homework and read the reviews from other people that ha e stayed in said property it’s not hard to figure out.

Only used Airbnb once, and it was from an incredibly sweet black woman.. In somewhat of a black neighborhood. She truly went out of her way to be as accommodating as possible.. even had food set up for my family to have. Wonderful experience.

I’ve used it a couple times. The hosts were very accommodating, but both places had a really weird smell.

How hard is it to figure out?

It’s not 1965, the internet can tell you everything about staying in a city in no time.

I think it also has to do with vacation travelers vs work travelers, that is a big difference.

Sort of. I would argue people do a lot less research that you give them credit for.

My reasoning comes from the amount of white people I see crossing St Claude/Rampart at 3am.

I realized I was getting old when I watched a bridal group cross into Treme at 430am obviously trashed. My heart went out to their parents because these girls obviously had no clue what they were doing.

Portland

there's only a couple of small black neighborhoods and they are clinging to it due to gentrification and a very high real estate market.

That might work the first time a listing is made. But when the review is posted "this is hood" that should stop the rest of them. Unless people are too stupid to read.

What was the point of the study? I mean if people staying in the neighborhood are not likely to use the local vendors, then people staying outside of the neighborhood sure as hell are not going to either.

What a dumbass study. It basically says no one wants to visit black or hispanic neighborhoods. How can even the most SJW person think that study is useful?
