I'd hate to see what some of us could've been charged for in school.

I'll preface this by saying I didn't participate...

In junior high, there was a 7th grade girl who was more developed than the other girls, if you will. I remember one day on the bus going home, a few boys ripped her bra off, and while she sat on the bus covering herself up embarrassed, they all were holding up the bra and passing it around laughing.

I certainly didn't experience it in that moment at 13 years old as a big deal but looking back now....that wasn't nice.

sounds that way.. fortunate

just uneducated

you are aware the reactions usually get worse with each exposure correct?

realize that there are legitimately deadly food allergies but I think a lot of them can be overcome.

lol yea im sure people like myself with shellfish allergies, or people with deathly peanut allergies would love to know how to overcome them

So if she knows she’s allergic, then she should avoid it, not make everyone else have to

im sure she does, but have you ever heard of cross contamination?

Most of the time when a food is banned from a school, it's to avoid cross contamination. People with a severe allergies don't have to consume the food directly to have life threatening reactions.

For example, I knew of a teacher that asked parents to not provide food with peanuts to kids as a snack in her classroom because residue left on a desk was enough to cause her to have a severe reaction.

She was taken for treatment immediately and apparently is okay. I'm not sure how that changes anything though.

okay, im done.. but it is done for protection of the kids. Rather you choose to believe it or not, they can die from someone touching them with peanut particles on their hand. It just isnt worth the risk, to chance a kid dying over some particular food just isnt worth it.

Or, instead of making the kid's parents have to leave work everyday to take their kid with a medical condition home from lunch, the school could just not serve pineapple. That seems like a much more reasonable idea.

I get the whole "pussification of America thing" is a hot button issue, but let's not let that overtake common sense just for the sake of arguing against it in every situation.

i know a girl who went in full anaphalactic shock after touching a receipt at a resturant. She was allergic to shellfish. Didnt eat anything. Sit down and drank drinks with friends. Waiter handed her receipt and within mins was in full shock. Got her epi injection then rushed to ER where they gave more. It just isnt worth the risk with kids in a cafeteria to even have it at all.

I don't think you understand how allergies are diagnosed/defined, that schools don't just not serve various foods at the behest of overprotective parents, or that some people can have such severe allergies they can't even be in the cafeteria where they are served.

We just have differing opinions on what common sense is.

Some seem to think that Society and institutions should cater to a minority. And that’s okay.

I think that common sense is, if you know that you or yourself are deathly allergic to something, learn how to avoid it and have an epi-pen at the ready. I don’t expect society to know everything that will bring me harm. Danger is everywhere. Be proactive.

Two different schools of thought and it’s fine to disagree.

sure in everyday adult life. Resturants do not (not) serve items because people are allergic. But we are talking about kids in school, not adults going out to eat.

So is that the restaurant’s fault? If you know you are deathly allergic to something, avoid it and have everything you need to combat it just in case.

Why stop at pineapples then?
Ban peanuts. Products that may come into contact with peanuts. Shellfish. Tree nuts.

Where do you draw the line?

absolutely not. That was in response to you saying just avoid it. Accidents happen, and when dealing with kids its a whole different ballgame. Was explaining to you how deathly it can be even without eating it.

Because I don’t think that if one person has an issue with something that everyone else should be forced to change their behavior?

They should expose these people to their allergens.

These pussy arse practices are weakening the bloodlines.

Let them die off so Darwin can claim his tithes.
