Similar story - met a guy from Malaysia at NLU in the late 80s who thought he was going to attend college in Los Angeles, but ended up in Monroe, LA.
Before the internet, we only had those crappy catalogs to reference. As far as I know, he graduated NLU.

Her family must be rich AF to be able to afford her schooling. I've heard all money up front, no loans for international exchange students.

My daughter works with a ChemE from Miami of Ohio. He alwys just says he went to Miami and is pleased when people think he meant the U. 
My wife works with a girl that always says her dad is a college professor in Oxford. It turns out she doesn't mean Ole Miss or England.
