I don't think that's the intent of the law though. I think the intent is that the government cannot limit your speech. Private parties can do what they want. I can tell you to shut up anytime I want and that's not against the law because I'm trying to limit your speach. Now, using physical violence is assault and is illegal in it's own right, but the purpose for the assault doesn't necessarily mean anything (unless you assault a minority or homosexual since we have "hate" crimes).

That's a throwback and still one of my favorite internet videos. I laugh every time.

That is the way I understand it as well, but I'm no SFP, so I could be way off base.

The moment that kid was standing there doing some injured cat type moan and the preacher approached to pick up something and the kid screamed " I don't like you!" reminded me a young child throwing a temper tantrum and not a college age adult

Technically, but you are violating all sorts of other civil and criminal laws with monetary and criminal penalties.

Yet between private parties it is perfectly legal, as far as I know. You can't assault some for any reason, whether it be because of words or actions, so that is the problem here.

Yeah and I wouldn't argue otherwise. My point is that "free speech" gets thrown around on all different sides when it rarely actually applies to the situation.

Take the threw a week or so ago on the St. Louis University investigation into "hateful" texts sent by a student in a group chat. They're a private university and if the student violated their policies, they can do as they see fit. I don't agree with them, but that is besides the point.

The kid in this video was way out of line, there is no debating that, but not because he violated the free speech protections of the professor. It would be akin to walking on the beach and insulting women left and right - if someone knocks you out over those comments, they're guilty of assault, but they are not violating your free speech.

Ehh, this was posted before I said anything...

it's the modern left...physically attack others free speech without regard to consequences.

As I said my original post, the assault is the problem. If Arizona State banned the professor, that would have been an attack on his free speech violations. It may just be semantics to some of you, which is fine, but I don't view it that way. I think free speech and censorship are incredibly important issues, so it strikes a nerve with me when it is brought up in situations where it doesn't apply.

There is a group of them that would hang out on Friday and Saturday nights on Mill Ave (main street where several college bars are located) from like 12-2 am and tell drunk college kids they were going to hell. They usually had large signs like that as well.

This was 10 years ago that I saw this....guess they are still there and spend their days on ASU's campus.

One of them tried telling me I was going to Hell as I left a bar with some friends a couple years ago. Showed them the cross I wear around my neck most everyday and told them I know where I'm going and that Jesus would be pretty upset to see them acting in the manner they were.
