A friend of mine was spearfishing in the gulf. He came up, threw a fish in the boat, went back down and never resurfaced.

A friend of my mom tried to playfully startle her husband by dropping an ice cube down the back of his neck as he was watching TV. Apparently the sudden shock caused him to have a brain aneurysm and then a stroke. He died shortly after.

we have three good nominees now.
arrow nock in the brain
zipped into body bag
and the ice cube stroke. this gets bonus points for the sorrow the playful wife got to endure. body bag guy is early leader for strangest though. arrow being a weapon, reduces the nock story to just horrible, but not all that strange.

Second weird death I post in 5 minutes. Friend went fishing near where the Treasure Chest is now in Kenner. He was wading in hip boots, hit a sink hole, went down and couldn't get out because of the boots. He threw his pole to his buddy who couldn't grab him.

I actually liked this guy (unlike the crossbow-in-the-chest guy). Really sad as he was married to a good friend of mine for only a year or so.

Yeah I'd link an article but I don't think it would be right with her name in there

So, he proceeded to stand up and yell "God take me now" just then a bolt of lightning struck him dead.

Yep. Remember that one.

A friend's father had a heart attack while hunting, fell face down into a puddle and drowned.

Growing up my neighbor (84) went on a cruise with her mother (103) and as they were exiting the ship, my neighbor stepped off the gang plank in front of her mother just as a strong wind gust broke one of the bolts holding it in place. Watched her 103 yr old mother fall 50 ft to concrete below.

Knew a guy who was out drinking with friends and somehow they managed to steal a pistol from a cop (not sure how). But they stopped at a gas station and the other 3 went inside leaving him in the backseat. They came back and found he had accidentally shot himself with the stolen police gun while messing with it.

During the April 27, 2011 tornadoes hat devastated Alabama there was a man in the next town over that survived the storm only to be crushed by a limb as he was cutting a fallen tree in his yard.

Thought of two good ones, although I didn't know these people:

There was a girl at a local HS who stuck her head out the window of the bus to say something to one of her friends, bus starts pulling out of the school and her head hit a pole and was severed.

My dads first job was an EMT. Craziest story he ever told me was he responded to a car crash where the guy was drag racing and wrecked into a donut shop. His car hit where the hot frying oil to cook the donuts was stored and it leaked into his car. The lower half of his body was fried.

I'm going to bump this because I have a few.

Great Grandfather was with his buddies in a boat one night. They were stopped so he went to take a piss off the back of the boat. Well they took off accidentally while he was back there, he fell off and they didn't realize it. Wasn't wearing a life jacket and drowned. Never found his body.

Uncles Brother was installing a natural gas generator and was hooking up the last main line when his partner, who was standing by the breaker, yelled "Ready?". He gave him a
delayed "NO!" and his partner thought he said "GO!". His partner cut the breaker on, and he died instantly from electrocution.

Guy I went to school with for 10 years was helping his dad clean their pool area after a huge storm hit BR. An old tree was falling and his father yelled at him to run. They both took off for inside. His father made it inside and assumed he did as well. 10 minutes later his father couldnt find him. Went outside and he was at the bottom of the pool. Tree hit him, he fell in the pool, and drowned.

Best friend's uncle was cutting grass on the back side of the levee. The tractor started to tip over and he jumped out. it landed on him, he got pinned face down in a puddle and drowned.

A girl, who my little sis (no pics) grew up with, went with her family and brought a friend to Gulf Shores. Her and her friend were in the gulf and her friend was attacked by a shark and didn't make it.

One of my sister's friends while they were freshmen in high school got into an argument with her boyfriend while driving down a main road in Memphis. She jumped out of his car, the car behind them smashed into her head with the front bumper killing her.

A kid in my mom's fifth grade class was at Greers Ferry with a some other kids and adults swimming around a boat. She went missing and no one could figure out where she went, they eventually found her under the boat. Her life jacket got caught on something under the boat and she drowned.

we have a camp on amite river near head of island. new family had just bought a place about two doors down and this (~1997) was their first summer. had two wave runners and would always haul arse up and down the river in tandem cutting donuts and catching wakes of passing boats. father and son were doing this one day when the son crossed too close to the dad and nose of the waverunner hit him directly in the chest killing him. this happened right in front of our pier. me, my uncle and sister saw the whole thing. mother is a cardiac nurse and called 911 and immediately got on boat to go survey. aunt made me and sister stay inside at this point. mom later in life told me that the mans face and chest were caved in from the impact. i can imagine the son is pretty jacked up from that. also, i do remember it taking the EMS forever to get to the scene. but it was a relatively remote area at the time.

got invited to an annual weekend fishing trip a few years back held by a bunch of guys who had worked together in refineries for years. first year was a lotta fun and got invited back the second year. a few weeks before year 2, i get a phone call from the organizer telling me that "Joe" wasn't gonna be there this year. Joe had gone out in Matagorda Bay by himself and never returned. all that was found was his boat, anchored in, and a pieces of what appeared to be his waders with pieces of him. they assume he got out to wade fish, had a heart attack, drown, etc. and then nature finished off the rest. we still went on the trip and drank many in his memory. another guy on the trip was in the search crew and told us about the pieces of him that he found in the waders. i couldn't imagine having to find one of my best friends like that.

friend's GF (no pics) found her father in a thousand pieces after falling off/under his tractor while bushogging. this happened less than a year ago.
