Stranger calling a little kid "pork chop"

Very odd. 75 year old man in line at HEB behind this African American woman and her 3 little kids. The younger kid was a little portly and he was staring back at the old man from the seat in the buggy. Then old man says "what are you looking at there Pork chop"?
The woman handled it pretty well. Didn't make a scene but I was just shaking my head.

I had an elderly mentally challenged woman in my office today. I made eye contact and smiled at her, and she reciprocated by staring at me intently the rest of the time. It wasn't an unfriendly stare, but still a little unnerving.
