Per a cousin of his on Instagram he may have gone to the airport to use a Tesla Supercharger not to pick someone up or catch a flight. Which is another layer to the story because his apartment complex has Tesla chargers available.

Wouldn't he have needed his wallet or phone to charge at the airport?

Given the context here, what prompted you to choose to be a dick?

How long does it take to get a full charge? Surely not four hours.

You'd think. Such an odd case.

Nope. The supercharger charges the credit/debit card you have in your Tesla account. You just plug in and go.

He also could have had a smartwatch paired to the car so he wouldn’t have necessarily needed a phone or wallet to drive.

Yes, but Tesla has made it difficult (justifiably) to get the footage from the Sentry system released. They're having to go through the process to get access.

This.

Also important to keep in mind is that the cameras will only save an “event”, so the only saved footage might just be the crash and nothing before that.

That's a good angle, SFP. Maybe he got "catfished" on Tinder???

What I find odd, is that he supposedly went to Florence on backroads. It's pretty hard to do that and would take way longer than 2 hours.
There are two reasonable ways to get from the airport at Madison to Florence.
The first and best, is to take U.S. Highway 20 west through Decatur. That would take about 80 minutes.
The second, is U.S. 72 west through Athens and then to Florence, that takes about 2 hours on a good day.
There are rivers and big creeks to cross either way and you can only cross on the main highways.
You might be able to go north of Highway 72 and cross the Elk River at Elk River Mills Bridge, and then First and Second creeks somehow, but it would add a lot of time to the trip. At least another hour.
I would like to see his route.

Now they’re saying the fiery wreck was found in Walker county and not found in Florence AL. I’ll try to find a non Facebook link.

That was what his cousin said yesterday, while at the same time the highway patrol was saying it was in Florence. The cousin had some things wrong in her timeline, so I don't know who to believe.

I'm confused as to why they would think the body in his car was anyone other than him.

I see her latest update now:

quote:

A small update to the facts of this case:
- Earlier versions of this story had the path leading to Florence when the path was actually South to Walker County. This was a miscommunication in the early stages of the case.
- The sentry data in the car was fully destroyed and we do not believe there will be any uploads for that day.

We are still grateful for any eyewitnesses at the apartment from 7:20am-7:40am and any sightings of Josh at the airport between 7:57am to 12:30am.

That's the likely end to this. I think the only thing that makes them skeptical is that everything that happened that day, after he talked to family in the early morning, was abnormal for him. Even the area the car ended up in isn't where someone just goes on a whim.

ETA: This seems to have gotten zero coverage locally, not even a mention on social media from the local Huntsville stations that I can find.

One of my SOs friends posted this story on FB and it’s such a crazy set of facts I waited until a news source ran with it to post. There’s a lot of crazy variables.

Reports are he drove the car away from the airport captured on video.
