It's moving west, but that won't be any better for New Orleans or Baton Rouge.

Honestly I need this to go back east. Id rather be right in the eye then barely take the NE quad

Grew up in Shreveport. Seen things that would make your toes curl.

Probably the 150 mph winds outside

We both know that by the time meemaw is in her attic swinging an ax in chest deep water , winds are nowhere near peak. Use your head

Took the legs off mine, then anchored it to the ground with straps and put the tongue of my boat on it. Let’s see if that holds.

My next door neighbors didn’t do a dang thing with theirs, or with anything in their yard for that matter. They evacuated yesterday and left me to deal with their stuff wrecking my property. They even left lumber full of nails laying behind their garage next to my house. Straight up trashy and selfish. I even told them before they left that they needed to clean up.

No you're right but it's just too little too late for those in the current path. Yesterday was the day for movement to get out of the path. Unfortunately for me most of the updates were steadily bumping east yesterday.

Also, self preservation and survival mechanism from our animal side.

You want to reach the highest point you can. You don't want to go outside because it is dangerous. So, you go up. Just like a raccoon in a tree.

Can somebody give me a graphic of wind speeds away from the center of Ida?

I’m not expert, but it does look like an eyewall replacement cycle is occurring. But again, I’m no expert.

I would rather have an axe ready to use if the option you are saying isn’t available. You are 100% right that the better option is to go outside, but if that option isn’t available, you have to figure out a way to get out. Some people can’t swim. Some people are elderly. Some people are stupid.

That's what the axe is for.

Man, it is not easy to hack a hole through your roof, or gable, to crawl out. Most people just could not do it. And even folks who are athletic enough might not have enough time before rising water drowned them.

I think a lot of people underestimate how hard it is to axe through your roof in complete darkness with water rising at your feet. It’s not a great plan.

It’s like have a knife as a back up in a machine gun fight. There is a 1 in a million chance it actually saves you.

There is a lot of justifiable focus on the wind speeds. Do not forget to read the numerous storm surge warnings that have been issued.

I know this is a very strong storm but isn't it relatively small/concentrated compared to Katrina and others?

Camille was never a "large" hurricane.

That's all you need to know.

We will make do. Appreciate the well wishes. Was supposed to fly out this morning for Phoenix to see Megadeth/Lamb of God but that obviously didn’t happen.
