Here's my blanket advice. If you are thinking about leaving, just do it and do it soon. There are going to be a lot of people waking up in a couple of hours thinking of doing the same thing. They won't have time between the storm and traffic delays to realistically get out.
If you leave right now though, you'll probably have a light traffic drive to where you are going.
Google Maps now shows green all the way to the edge of Lake Charles, and I-210 is good until it merges with I-10 west. All green for freeways in every other direction, even Mobile has cleared out.

You need to try and get some sleep. Going to be a long day tomorrow. And you are going to need your A game.

I just got up and packed a quick bag got my meds together and then kind of sat back and said you are 90 miles from the coast in Baton Rouge...82 year old Parents are staying, Brothe ris staying, I have a broken back waiting for surgery, two elderly animals I can't even pick up to put in a car right now, and I realized with it being Cat 1 or 2 here in BR I am panicing and not thinking clearly. Going to get some sleep. Tomorrow will be a long day but we will survive this and live to hate August 29th even more. May almighty God watch over all of my Louisiana Brothers and Sisters..
I love you. Thank you. Good night. I’ll start the check in thread tomorrow.

I'm not from Louisiana, but my daughter is in Carville with her NG Unit.
I am a little more than concerned and I know nothing about hurricanes. Any idea on what Carville could experience w this hurricane?
She is Coast Guard they have to be safe so others can be safe. No worries mom, rest easy.

Beginning now, there will be a multi-hour gap in aircraft reconnaissance measurements from Hurricane #Ida due to yet another maintenance issue on one of the planes. Bad timing, but should have data again in ~3 hours or so from a new @NOAA_HurrHunter aircraft.

I feel that a lot of people have been so nonchalant about this storm. Last time everyone watched the news this was a category 3 hitting late Sunday. Now it’s pushing a cat 5 and they won’t be up for 5-6 hours. This is spelling out to be a disaster

You asked duke and got an answer and now you are questioning the answer you got. You are not going to have a pleasant time with 2 young kids and no power for possibly a week without power.

Different storm, different path. MS will be fine.

Not if you think it will be safer for y'all to bail.
There's no point in staying and hoping you will be safe, when you can leave and know you will be safe.

I mean, tomorrow (today) is Sunday. Guys reading now have a finite window to just put on their pants, look at Heather and say frick it. Leave or stay. Jeff, it's up to you.

And the kids are going to scared to death with howling winds of close to if not exceeding 100. Just go.
