Lots of inexperienced, naive folks as it relates to major hurricanes around this area.
I’m not playing Billy Bad-arse here. These are my locations during the more memorable hurricanes during my lifetime. Feel free to look up the tracks
Andrew- western Houma
Katrina- Thibodaux
Gustav- Labadieville
Every other hurricane from 1984 to now I was somewhere between those 3 places
I’ve seen some things man, and some stuff. Wouldn’t recommend it, but there are tons of people with similar experiences

Thib-a-doe, if this turns out to be Laura 2.0, this is going to be your worst experience and second place may not be that close.

I’m from Napoleonville. Went through same shite. If I was still down there, I’d GTFO. frick dealing with all that aftermath. Call me when the power comes back

I have a serious question if you will all humor me. Will the recent rain in New Orleans cool the waters enough to disrupt Ida?
In a word, no. Any slight surface water cooling is negligible compared to the enormous heat sink that is the Gulf of Mexico.
Main issue is the Loop and Eddy currents warm waters are deep around 200 meters or greater, and hurricane wave induced cold water upwelling doesn't effect them much as it would in normal, cooler waters. Google Gulf of Mexico Loop Current or GoM sea surface temperature for a better explanation.
How hot is it relative to normal summer time temps? At 90 degrees sea surface temperature, the waters surface is about one meter higher than usual sea level. Hot water, like hot air, rises.
Katrina tracked over the loop current, one of the main reasons it become a major storm. Ida is taking a similar path over the present LC location. Rocket fuel for hurricanes

This is why the people who don’t live in flood prone areas evacuate. It’s not because of the storm but the sweating your arse off for weeks.

Not sure what to do. Honestly my first hurricane having to make adult decisions.
Let me tell you between Hurricane Rita and Laura, the many people that I’ve talked to that stayed, EVERY SINGLE ONE of the responses I got was “NEVER AGAIN.”
Go. You’re already inconvenienced and you will be for about a month if you’re in an area that’s going to get hammered. There’s absolutely zero reason to stay and put yourself in harms way. I call it laziness. Even the people who are posting here and acting big and bad now…when it starts rolling in, their tone is going to change real quick.

Also, I’m doing all my laundry + towels before the power goes out. I’ll deal with heat and power outage… but I’m gonna do it with fresh socks dammit!

If it beats Gustav I would be throughly impressed. I saw some shite happen to giant oak trees, as it was happening, that I didn’t think was possible

Any of our learned experts have an opinion on the odds of being able to fly out of MSY 8 AM Sunday?

Next track update due up in 30 min. Curious to see what the OT meteorologists got for the 10pm update? We currently have a Morgan City landfall.
Upvote = left of current track staying west of MC at landfall and west of BR
Downvote = right of current track and goes east of MC and BR

If Gustav is you, ida is the guy she doesn't want you to know about

What I remember about Rita is trees snapped.
What I remember about Laura is trees twisted apart. Oaks. Think about that. Our roofs were literally peeled off by wind.
frick all that mess.
