That would be an Andrew or worse.

I work with a guy who lost the entire metal roof off his house during Andrew. He spent weeks living in his camper with his pregnant wife, a 4 year old and a 2 year old.

His days consisted of cleaning up in his yard in long sleeves and jeans because the fiberglass insulation from his attic was entangled in all the limbs and debris. He is a welder and like many other, wears pretty thick glasses from staring at an arc for 30+ years. He also naturally has a less than pleasant disposition and because of the environment after the storm he stayed armed.

A white van pulled up in his driveway one afternoon and the driver got out and started walking around in his yard. The van had some writing on the side but he couldn't make out what it said from the distance. He figured it was a scammer trying to hustle him to change his roof or clean his yard up as there was a lot of that going on.

He walked towards the van holding his gun, shouting instructions to "get the frick out of my yard right now." The passenger in the van saw him coming, and started yelling for the driver who was walking around to get back in and hurry up, let's go.

Turned out the passenger was Dan Rather and the writing on the side of the white van said "CBS News". That's his hurricane Andrew story - he pointed a gun at Dan Rather and threatened to kill him.

I’m in the hospital with my wife. She’s in labor. The baby could be born tonight. Could be born tomorrow. I don’t know how much time I will have to prepare my house. frick me boys and girls. We live in Baton Rouge, so we’re not in the worst place possible, but it certainly isn’t good. My family has been lucky for a long time. I really wish that this was not the weekend it would run out. I know I should have prepared for this, but I just dropped the ball. I’ve asked family for help, but I don’t know how much they’ll be able to do.

Good luck, but I'd be leaving MC.

We'll make a final call soon.

I have a whole home generator, flooding/surge isn't really an issue, and I have no trees that are a problem.

I don't believe I'm putting any lives at risk staying.

Honestly, I can't believe you of all people would risk sitting in the path of this potential monster. You have to know this thing could blow up to a Cat 5 by the time it hits land.

Go home and do it. You don't want to see the birth any way. Trust me.

I'm kinda joking....a little

I’m in Youngsville. I’m going to go ahead and stay at the homestead for this one. Looks like at this point we will most likely just see very strong winds. I’m giving myself until the update tomorrow morning to change my decision.

Wouldn’t this normally be the tendency for a stronger than expected storm or is there some sort of pressure that’s going to keep it from making the turn?

Good luck to your kid always sharing its birthday with a hurricane. My nephew’s 18th is today. He was in Shreveport evacuated away from Laura last year.
