I would really love for this tropical wave to either die

It sounds paranoid to be worried about an invest for days on end.
perception of paranoia is a sign of lack of education regarding storms. most know that any tropical system in a favorable condition gulf can go from 0 to 60 well within 36 hours.

Shear is starting to go down quickly, and we have a nice convection blow up. Doesn't mean the storm is organizing quickly or anything right now, but it means it is about to get into more favorable conditions than we have seen in the last couple of days.

So when should I start to worry? Do I need to stock up on beer and gin now?

Visible satellite seems to imply the Llc is still to the northwest of the new convection this morning.

You can literally see the shear decreasing with each new sat update. Cloud tops are no longer just racing off.

There are likely multiple small spins rotating around this morning. Now that the more vigorous spin from yesterday is gone it is probably better to just focus on the broad rotation and not the little spins rotating around in it.

Yeah that general area. That RGB visible image shows low clouds in yellow. The circulation or hook in that area would be the LLC.
ETA defer to rds above.

Someone please explain to me what shear is.
Posted on 8/26/16 at 10:10 am to 10Percenter
Mid to high level winds that blow the tops of the convection off before it can start to swirl.
Posted on 8/26/16 at 10:12 am to LSURussian
So decreasing sheer = increased chance of organizing?

frick!

quote:Yep. If the upper level winds shear off the tops of the convection, the system has less chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. It would just remain a tropical wave, i.e., a line of thunderstorms without rotating winds.
So decreasing sheer = increased chance of organizing?
