There was a mass evac of New Orleans in I guess the late 90s ... Nothing happened and that's why a lot of people didn't want to leave for Katrina. I remember the traffic on i10 bumper to bumper for what seemed like forever.

And nothing happened. Personally I'm in the better safe than sorry group. And I love 5-10 miles from the Louisiana coast.

It was the year before. The big storm that hit around Perdido Key/Navarre - Ivan. Nagin came on TV and told everyone "Don't forget yo Benjamins!" when you leave. There was one around 98 or 99 too, but I don't think as many people left.

Ivan in 2004. I left New Orleans and it took me 13 hours to drive 80 miles. Miserable.

Is the weather channel saying it could turn into yankee Fla and go in the GOM?

Keep in mind, these are just two of the models. The other major models show it skirting the east coast of florida and crashing into the Carolinas. Unfortunately, there is no consensus yet, but it's best to be prepared just in case.

You can view a lot of the models as they update at Tropical Tidbits

Looking at some of the stuff on Jeff Masters blog there may even be a chance this storm does a loop and gets a second landfall. Some crazy shite going on with this one.

It was the weekend of an early-season game against a rent a win (Idaho, maybe?) The PA announcer came on and said they were evacuating New Orleans. People did not leave early, FWIW. Shitty opponent, weather emergency, and most of them stayed to the end.

Yes there was a home game ... We spent the night at a hotel off of College. Remember seeing traffic. Don't remember the game itself lol.

Is there one of those that's generally more reliable than the others? I don't know much about Hurricane Models.

We've got a fishing trip planned to the Bahamas Oct. 21. Hoping for the best but prepping for the worst. Small worry considering how this thing is going to affect some of the peoples' lives down there.

Your memory is bad.

We were tailgating and listening to the pregame show. Around 4pm they broke and said they evacuations had been ordered for New Orleans. Full stadium to start the game by mid 2nd quarter after several announcements their was around 30,000 in there. I stayed till the end and drove back to Ponchy. I-12 going east was a ghost town, going west it was bumper to bumper.
