Do you realize that is a Disney owned island? Have you tried Disney Cruise lines web site?

There is only one way to save the world from Mother Nature's wrath. Saban must leave Bama and become the coach at South Carolina.

We'll probably be back down on the So Miss / Oct15th weekend to assess storm damage here.
Might need to check it out

Another case of "weather making a penis shape"...(cue Beavis and Butthead laugh...."he said penis"...)

This map shows the areas that got tropical storm force winds and hurricane force winds along the path of Matthew. It's really hard to imagine that the Bahamas won't get the shaft soon. This storm is getting ridickulous.

We've got the lounge area in the back reserved. Sofas, beer, and sushi.

You just turned my entire world upside down...

I think my favorite part of that map is the placement of the islands in just the right spot.

I have friends on Castaway Cay who were told they can't be evacuated due to limited resources by Disney. How safe might they be on that island?

Duuuuuuuude. Bad on Disney for leaving their employees stranded to face a hurricane. A multi-billion dollar company and they're too cheap to rent some boats and go get their people. It's got an airstrip they could easily charter a smaller jet from a regional airline and get their employees over to Florida for a couple days until it passes.

The resorts and tourists facilities are built to withstand major hurricanes. Even the slums on the major tourist islands are built to withstand major hurricanes. It is the less developed islands and places like Haiti and Cuba where the danger is.

Won't the Gulf Stream give it the fuel it needs to reenergize and renew itself?

I haven't had a chance to really look over the specifics of the storm but from existing knowledge I have, the Gulf Stream can sustain some strength. It depends too on how close to land the storm parallels as that could pull in a bit of drier air and work against the strength. Timing is everything as I will address below...

quote:

I thought I heard the NHC saying that best case scenario was for forward progression to slow down and that would likely help it miss making a direct landfall on the eastern seaboard but if the forward progress sped up, it increased the likelihood of it making landfall exponentially. I'm positive I heard that not long ago. (He said landfall specifically in the Carolinas should it speed up, most likely near Charleston..that was about 3 hours ago that this was said by the NHC on TWC when being asked about this scenario)

Again going off of general knowledge, this most likely relates to steering from interaction with other features such as getting caught up with an advancing cold front and being redirected back out to sea. That would depend on timing/speed of the storm and when it might get caught up in the front's steering of it.

Could get pretty nasty here Thursday/Friday. Disney hasn't said anything that I've heard. They are pretty amazing though. I remember when Charley came thru, Disney closed early (first time ever) around 12:00 noon, we had over 100mph winds around 9:00 pm that same night and Disney was open the very next morning right on time. Orlando was a total mess, we were without power for 6 days, but Disney didn't miss a beat.

Looks like it's going to clip the East coast of Cuba, and pass just east of GTMO.

I see outpatients myself. I'm told VA admin met at 2:15 and were waiting on the governor's announcement before making any further decisions. Now I'll have to find a place to go until I hopefully go to Gainesville on Friday.

eta: I mentioned it to NC, but you should also join us at Locals for LSU games in the future, assuming it is still there.
