Tell that to the 1,000+ (number still rising in Haiti) people that have been killed so far by this system.

I'm cynical and don't believe those numbers. 26% of Haiti's GDP comes from handouts coming into the country via wire transfers.

an exaggeration of damage and deaths to illicit global donations again wouldn't surprise me. Charities were fundraising before the hurricane even hit there.

Yeah, it is hard to know. I thought that too while on the other hand there is almost zero infrastructure so they are basically just standing out in the open. It did seem suspicious they counted another 600 bodies today.

Last I saw which was noonish today death toll had reached 280something in Haiti and one death in Florida. Woman had a heart attack and EMT couldn't get there.

*eta 1 death is too many much less 280something so far

Front row house in Palm Coast getting blasted. Apparently this is security came footage. Real shitty I love that area. Assume this is very near Bing's Landing. We just stayed at a VRBO right there over Labor day

Good call. No need to risk life.

I however am stupid and I'd stay just to experience it since I love stormy weather.

I would feel comfortable staying in my home up to around 130 mph winds. Anything more and I am out since no matter what you are living in short of a bunker is going to sustain heavy damage. Gustav was a little over 100 mph by my house and it still took off a decent amount of my shingles.

I'm not sure what is so absurd about this. Seems pretty logical when you're 24 hours out from being on the wrong side of a strong storm.
