This early heavy rain is gonna make this really bad! Its a 100% percent chance the power will be out now. I have a few pine trees on the side of my house that as the ground gets softer it makes me more nervous. Add to that 90-100mph winds. I was in lafayette in 2002 when lili hit and so many trees and branches fell on houses. Stay safe all. Thanks for all the updates on here they have been really helpful .

I'm Jax area (Amelia Island), I left yesterday.

Would have probably rode it out if I was single but the wife was freaking out and I have a 2-1/2 yr old.

I would recommend trying to find someone to stay with inland, sounds like hotels are sold out all over.

Pine trees have deep roots which make them less susceptible to falling from saturated earth combined with wind. The Oaks have shallow roots and saturated ground combined with wind is a terrible combination for them.

Water oaks might be the worst tree known to man.

Oaks also fall more slowly as the roots provide resistance with the ground. Pine tend to snap and free fall. In Slidell, so many houses were split because those pines fell straight on the house during Katrina due to the wind.

Way more pines fall or break during hurricanes, not even close really.

latest pressure measured by recon is 939

Damn once the wind catches up to the pressure this has a chance to hit cat 5.

I have 5 yuuge pines in the back yard. The wind will be blowing away from the house though. We are only expecting 50'ish here with heavier gusts.

I also have some relatives in from Scotland. They are at the Colorado Springs, on Disney property. They are going to ride it out there because they want to see it.

Local news is showing officials telling people on the right coast to GTFO. They are telling them, in advance, that they will not come help them if they choose not to evacuate.

Makes sense because they'll be handling traffic and security for the game instead.

Looks like the models are in pretty good agreement that this thing will be either halfway on shore or completely on shore by West Palm Beach and will re-emerge or pull off of the shore around Jacksonville. The biggest variables now will be how strong the storm gets before that happens and precisely how far on shore it crawls.

Good call man, can't bear to think trying to help the lil one through that and what the aftermath could really mean for your family and the child especially.

Hoping what you're leaving behind is blessed and stays protected.

Hurricane 101 for this slow fella

Lower pressure = stronger winds?

Typically....for the sake of 101, let's just say yes

Can you stop with this?

Not a single Gainesville officer will be 70 miles away from their duties at the beach.

Also, some of us are actually using the info you and others are posting and the other stuff is just out of place considering what we are facing.

ETA: The nearest beach is Crescent and is 2 counties East of Alachua/Gainesville. It's about 70 miles to the East.
