I contributed during the Boston Bombing and ensuing man hunt. The OT did not solve or break anything during that. What OT did was follow live and be a collaboration of mulitple resources with users on the story 24/7. There were several twitter accounts from the MIT building, where brother was shot, and from the neighborhood it all ended. When the police were going door to door, twitter users were following and photoing Dozer or whatever his name is.

In the aftermath, the bombing and manhunt changed how news outlets cover live or breaking stories. Now news reporters try to reach out and contact twitter users. That didnt happen until after the Boston Bombing.

Some guy posted here once for the first, and I'm guessing only, time. He gave us the number of a guy that his girlfriend was cheating with and asked us all to call and harass him. Very quickly, based off that number alone, OT posters found the guy's Facebook page and then figured out who the original poster was. The OP said he did not expect us to find all that out, especially so quickly. The entire thread was soon deleted.

It was that night that really cemented how inept our national media was. You had anonymous posters on a message board that were hours ahead of anything reported on TV.

I remember the OT and both Reddit incriminating the wrong people several times. Reddit so much so that they nearly ruined a few people's lives.
