Stores that close down one set of entrance doors...

....what exactly is this preventing? Herding everyone together through one entrance seems to defeat the purpose of social distancing.

Still not as dumb as limiting occupancy just to have a long line outside.

It allows them to manage the number of people in the store at any given time.
Also, since many are operating with a reduced staff, they only have one point of ingress/egress to monitor for shoplifting.

They are counting people entering to try to stay under a certain number of people. Whatever that number is who knows but it’s to create less people like normal shopping.

The ones here are counting people coming in and leaving because they have to remain below 50% capacity.

A lot of the things we have done seem counter intuitive. Close half of businesses so everyone is forced into the same few open venues.

Noticed this at Rouses on Carrollton Avenue 2 days ago. The normal exit door they used as you leave the checkout area is now closed and you have to use one entrance where everyone is coming in and going out.
Seems pretty counterproductive and absolutely ridiculous at the same time.

Easier to manage the entry/exit of customers and maintain capacity. You also remove another set of touch points that no longer requires your attention. I imagine almost every store will do this for the next few months.

I assume they are doing the same thing here. I haven't been to a big store in over a month.
There's a little locally owned grocery store not too far from us that isn't crowded. You might pay a little more but you can get in and out with no lines.

Every supermarket in my area has automatic doors, so no "touch points" to be taken into consideration.
