This is a nation of laws. If we don't stand up to this type of lawlessness then we won't have a country anymore!

Did I do that right?

Why? He’s obviously able to work and get along. That’s a good thing. It’s too bad people don’t focus on the positives, just the negatives of a “disability.” Nobody is taking up for the mgr.

Just fire the employee and get them out of there. A savvy lawyer might be able to figure out wrongful termination but saying the employee wasn't an issue is just giving him a pass because of a disability

I like you, baw. But you of all people know how much food waste is generated by restaurants, probably better than anyone on this board.

Bingo. They removed Asperger’s which was basically just someone with normal intelligence but poor social skills. Now every reject claims to be autistic.

Restaurants probably don't like that because the employees can just over cook a lot of extra food just so they will have leftovers for themselves.

Not saying that has anything to do with this story. I haven't ready about this story yet.

Kid used to pay for the food, but the manager bitched him out because the line was too long and it was overextending his break. The manager is pos on a power trip. Disabilty or not.

Never heard of a Meijer but it sounds like somewhere I would likely not shop.

They're nice stores. It's where I primarily do my grocery shopping.

My Meijer has a bin by the deli with meats and cheeses discounted up to 75% off. Nothing is wrong with them; it's just older stock they're trying to move before tossing. The article doesn't specify, but If the kid was taking that product off the floor, I can see why it was a problem.

That doesn't excuse the manager not saying anything for three months, then calling the cops. That bullshite move is likely what got him fired, too.

CONFESSION: When I was a bag boy in high school, I would go to the deli and make myself a sandwich during break.

Police can search your trash without warrant because it's no longer yours. It's discarded. Not your property. Same here. No theft. No crime.

That manager is perverse. I mean, to chronicle the kid’s “crimes” without telling him indicates that he enjoys drama and facilitates it whenever he can.

A couple things happen if you just say go ahead and let them take the waste. First is you open the door for people to purposely waste food to take home. The second thing is that a lot of places monitor how much is wasted to see what and why. If I have this guy taking it then I do not see it and cannot to do my job. For instance, I can tell you how many wings/fries/pounds of meat/ etc that we wasted or was shrinkage. Lastly, ask me for it. Now I have to think this is the first time you got caught stealing. Let me see what we are wasting and make the decision to give it to you or not which I more than likely will.

You are conflating property on the curb, usually considered abandoned, with the dumpsters they pay for. I pay almost $1k/month for four lifts a week and have that dumpster in a corral. Many places have them out in the open of sorts but it is on private property. Dumping your own trash is considered illegal and even dumpster diving is considered trespassing.
