COPENHAGEN — It was meant to be a collector’s secret, but someone knew the secret, stole the secret and, it seems, drank the secret: what the owner calls “the most expensive vodka bottle in the world.”
The bottle was created by Dartz Motorz, a car manufacturer in Riga, Latvia, and fitted with an original 1912 leather ribbon from the company’s first Monte Carlo rally car.
The bottle is made of 6.6 pounds of gold and the equivalent amount of silver and has a diamond-encrusted cap fashioned to resemble a vintage car front.
It had been borrowed and placed in a pub, Cafe 33, in central Copenhagen amid a collection of fine spirits assembled by Brian Ingberg, the bar’s owner.
The bottle was worth $1.3 million, according to the owner. The vodka: Russian.

Once I get to about Absolut quality I can't tell the difference. I'm uncultured swine I guess when it comes to vodka

Hopefully this baw had the wits about him to at least mix it with some OJ.

It was just the bottle that was worth so much. Not the Vodka.

There have been blind taste tests where swill was picked as the most expensive, and the expensive stuff was thought to be the cheapest. Most taste difference is psychological

All vodka tastes the same

I mix it anyway so I usually just buy Smirnoff or equivalent.

In blind taste tests Smirnoff is almost always the winner.

Bourbon and red wine are the alcohols that come to mind as far as a noticeable quality difference. Even then once you get above the gut rot I'm sure it's not as noticeable as most people think.

Clear alcohol is for women.

I could never taste the difference but I drank it straight, and very fast in large quantities

Whisky in general not just Bourbon, in fact, there aren't as many high end Bourbons compared to Scotch.
Vodka is one that blind taste test often show that perceived quality is the least likely to follow price.
Even a noob to Scotch will have no problem telling the difference between most single malts however they may prefer the younger (quality) single malts from $200 a dram whisky that is simply taste.
Vodka is a mixing spirit whisky is for enjoying straight with maybe a drop or two of distilled water.
