Stolen Land Acknowledgment On My Kid's Syllabus

quote:
"Our course takes place on land that European colonizers stole from Indigenous people through violence. The Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Peoria, Sauk and Meskwaki, Bodéwadmiakiwen (Potawatomi), Miami, and Oceti Šakówin (Sioux) peoples lived and shepherded the land that is now considered (name of current town where university is). Further, enslaved people, who were primarily Indigenous and of African descent, provided exploited labor throughout our state (Jaffe, 2020). Acknowledging the stolen land and exploited labor is vital to engaging in social justice and equity work, especially in higher education. As we move through this course, I challenge you to remember our individual and collective responsibility to this history and honor those who came before us. I encourage you to call attention to and interrupt exploitation, supremacy, and injustice, as well as extend respect, compassion, and grace to those whose ancestors experienced such violence."
I pay tuition at a small public university primarily funded by White families, and below is what students of European ancestry are treated to when they sit down to look at their MATH syllabus. The following scolding was actually listed on the syllabus before any course content. Professor is a Chinese-American "social justice educator" (aka Anti-White political activist) who willingly participates in and benefits from, along with her émigré parents, the courageous actions of my ancestors, while simultaneously disrespecting their ultimate sacrifices.
A contemptible ingrate.

To the victor go the spoils
The left will learn that fact again the hard way if they keep pushing this nonsense

Ask her where slavery started and by whom.

That’s terrifying to read

Now tell us who the Kickapoo and the Sioux stole it from. Let’s just go all the way back since we are seeking justice and not to score ideological points.

Can the indigenous people please provide a receipt showing they bought said land? Oh that’s right, they cannot bc they stole the land themselves.

All colleges, even small ones are liberal indoctrination camps.

I wonder if the professor, who is an open-borders advocate, wishes that the Indians had built a big beautiful wall along the eastern seaboard.

In my mind it's even worse than indoctrination: it's flat out racial contempt and warfare subsidzed by the very people who have to suffer it.

I mean, the part you bolded is pretty accurate, but if your claim that it was in a math syllabus is true, that's pretty ridiculous.

Me thinks too many folks are ignorant on how empires and colonialism worked. People get too caught up in modern norms and try to use their current mores to criticize historical context. In the process they totally gloss over the norms and mores of those periods in time.
It’s a flawed exercise and “academics” can’t seem to understand that it isn’t a logical thought process.
Basically let’s go back to any empire...say roman...modern academic...Hey Caesar...you’re ruining indigenous lives and culture with your toxic imperialism...Caesar....oh really....academic “yessir...I demand you stop”. Caesar..”feed this person to the lions “

This type of hyperbolic indoctrination is going to reach a tipping point eventually.

You won’t find any Republicans in the Political Science Dept of any of these teaching institutions.

Welcome to the new normal.

And this is necessary to teach math HOW exactly?

I work in academia. My leftist colleagues wouldn't willingly hire a conservative if their lives depended on it.
If you are a known Republican, either from job search committees rooting around your social media or finding your political donations online, you will absolutely not be given an interview, 99 times out of 100.
I have a Hispanic colleague who is a HORRIBLE writer and thinker, and she's had her last two papers rejected for publication. Her reasoning? White racism and the silencing of marginalized voices.
This is why I can only laugh at the ignoramuses on this board who minimize the problem by saying "GO OUTSIDE, GET ON WITH YOUR LIVES, JUST IGNORE IT!"

To be fair, every syllabus for all classes is required to have a university policies section with disabilities act info, nondiscrimination statement, academic integrity warnings, etc..

When I see statements like that I immediately agree and use it to describe the need for strong borders and a strong military.
