Still a few honest people in the world.... *Update Page 4*

Left the Hoover Met last night after the game and gassed up at the Shell station at NE corner of 150 and 459 for the drive home. Apparently my wallet fell out of my left front pocket when I got back in the car and I never felt it.
Didn't realize it was missing til I got all the way back home to Tupelo.
I called the station several times but they do not answer the phone.
Cancelled all credit and debit cards immediately and started looking at replacing DL and CCL.
Figured that's all I can do and went to bed. Got up early this am and tried calling but they do not answer the damn phone.
Asked a friend in Homewood area to go to the station and inquire about it, which she did at great personal inconvenience. The guy pulls it up from behind the counter, intact. A lady picked it up and brought it right into the store without taking anything apparently. And the counter guy didn't take anything either. Cash and cards intact. There's at least two honest people left in the world.
Counting my blessings.
The lady who turned it in left a note with her name and phone number requesting a call to make sure I got it back. My friend called her and she says the lady talked her ear off for ten minutes. I will have to call her tomorrow.
What do you think, should I offer to send her a check or some cash as a reward? Personally I would not expect anything for doing the right thing. I don't want to insult the woman but I do appreciate the hell out of her turning my wallet in.

Call her and tell her thanks and listen to her for ten minutes. No need to send her anything.

I always do this when I can. You never know.

Honest people don't need any gift. Acknowledgement is enough

50 bucks to Chilis is the appropriate response here. No return address on the envelope so she can’t send it back. Nice handwritten note.
Ask her full name on the call and if she lives in the area. Tax assessor will most likely pull you up her address unless she rents. But if she rents, she would have stolen the wallet to begin with

Absolutely, or a Shell gas card so she can use it at the same station

I'm taking the cash and giving back the rest. Going to the DMV or express lane is like going to hell.

Reminds me of the time I found a wallet on the side of the road. Looked up the address on the drivers license and hand delivered it to the guy with everything intact.
That very same day my wedding band got stolen by a housekeeper. Karma is bullshite.

Had something similar happen to me recently. Left my wallet at the bait shop and the owner drove 50 minutes out his way and dropped it off at my house. I offered to at least let me give him some money for gas driving out to me but he didn’t want anything. I think most people are good people. The media and internet like to paint a different story.

Great story.
There is some hope for us yet.
And yeah, gift her a gift card to a restaurant

She sounds like a great gal and would definitely enjoy a year long jelly of the month membership! I mean, I guess restaurant gift card works too.

I left my debit card in the card reader at Subway yesterday. Black guy behind me immediately noticed and gave it back to me.
The world isn’t AS bad as the media portrays.
Still pretty shitty though.
I should have bought the dude his sammich.

quote:It sounds like she would be far more grateful if you just gave her a call and genuinely shared your heartfelt gratitude than if you tried to give her a reward. Chat the lady up and share with her the same renewed faith in humanity that you shared with us… I suspect that will make her far happier than a $50 reward ever would.

Offering would be the polite thing to do. But I’d bet, based on what you’ve said, she wouldn’t hear of it. In her mind, she’s already got her reward in knowing she was able to do a good deed.

You need to get the lady to re-enact it for Tiktok or Instagram so both of you can score social media points. If she isn’t very attractive, get someone better looking to stand in for her.

Take her out for some chicken. A little sex. Ya know, see where things go.
