At least that’s getting recycled. Hell they’re biodegradable.

Seems like a lot of aluminum cans for the homeless to pick up and sell.

People are trashy, and they have been trashy for a long time. Last time I was on the Comite and we walked some of the sand bars there was trash from the 80's on them... Sure there was a mix of new and old, but lots of old.
My MIL inherited 5 acres of land in Gonzales, it is on Bayou black or Black bayou... People trash that land all the time, her mother would never let anyone use it so of course EVERYONE who wasn't related to her used it and they treat it like public land. We entertained the idea of building there but the more time we spent on the property the more we realized it wasn't worth fighting the people that thought they should have access to use it... I mean they even have dirt bike and ATV trails throughout it now with tons of camp sites where people just leave their trash.

SIAP, but littering is incredibly repugnant to me. It’s completely unnecessary and even animals don’t shite in their own dens. The fact that it’s epidemic in this state speaks volumes.
I bitched and moaned about it until the day I left. Sad part is that it’s only a symptom of much larger problems.
Spoiler alert: It’s won’t improve in our lifetime

If we had $0.05 deposit per can I'd be rich

isn’t a homeless camp near there?
Go grab those homeless people on Siegen and pay them minimum wage to pick up that trash.
Get them some cots and let them sleep at one of the buildings on Burden for a few months.
Problem solved without a study!

True story, I've made a sailboat out of a canoe, 2x4s, plywood, tarp, and c-clamps, and sailed from the new mall to the Pecue bridge and back again during Tropical Storm Lee (2011)
A lot less trash traffic back then

Last week some bitch in the car in front of me on I10 outside Houston simply tossed a plastic cup from her window. Naturally she had a Louisiana plate. I can’t even fathom an adult who thinks that’s ok to do.

Trashiest fricking state with the trashiest fricking citizens ever. Littering should carry a death sentence, but there’d be no one left in this disgusting state.

Louisiana people take no pride in their homeland. They act like they do by bragging about it but at the end of the day that’s all bullshite. It’s gotta be one of the dirtiest states top to bottom. I’d imagine it’s up there with east coast states like Delaware or even west coast states like California.
Surrounding states have some litter sure but not at the same rate. Mississippi and Texas are much cleaner.

As another poster previously said, it’s poors and low class people who do that. He can argue all he wants about that one time he saw rich people on a boat doing it. That’s rare. It’s a well known fact that Louisiana has a lot of poor. Therefore. A lot of trash. It’s socially acceptable. Sad really.

It is appalling. Our fellow Louisianians are trash.

I am seriously impressed to finally see the media do a piece on the 80 ton trash gorilla in the room. FINALLY!!!
But truth be told, just look outside your window as you drive down I-10 or I-12 once in a while and see if you can find a patch of green grass not defiled with litter everywhere. It’s sickening.
This whole community approach to cleaning up this city is going to have to begin by first admitting the problem, and then dealing with and correcting the behavior.

Baton Rouge DPW is an absolute joke and has been for years. They can’t even keep the grass mowed. Why don’t they use parish prison inmates to pick up litter? Let me guess. Racism!

Sadly it’s no longer just limited to the berm of the interstates. Drive around any suburban neighborhood on garbage pickup day. People can’t even be bothered in this state to pick up trash that’s blown onto their front yard from their trash cans. They seem to figure it will eventually blow somewhere else.

Look around ANY street in BR. There is shite everywhere.
It’s gotten very bad in the last few years.
I don’t ever see anyone picking it up but assholes are always tossing it out.

I’m so glad that people are talking about this. I have been looking out along I-10 and I-12 lately and it’s just appalling at how much trash is on the sides of the roads. It’s everywhere you look! The first thing they could do is start with some education and put large billboards everywhere talking about how trashy it is to trash Louisiana. Second they could use all the prisoners that are left in prison for so long to pick it up. Very rarely ever see them picking up trash anymore.
