So now that we know this, let's here those of you who opined BEFORE the facts came out...hello?

I’m right here. You heard from me yesterday because she was arrested a few days ago for an accident that took place months ago. So it was safe for us to assume that the “improperly restrained” snippet was the entirety of the reason. Forgive us for trusting BRPD and the advocate to not omit a rather important detail.

The negligence is there so the arrest makes sense now. But as with most negligent homicide cases, there’s a valid point not to waste space in prison for someone who statistically is not going to make this level of negligence again.

No real point in locking her up... but she should do a LOT of community service.

ETA: Unless some of the other kids who weren't wearing seat belts and were injured were hers... then I might change my mind on the doing time.

Personally I'm sick of pulling up at red lights and seeing C.Denise Marcelle's voters letting their kids jumping around inside the car. And I'm sick of that bitch complaining everytime one of her voters gets arrested for breaking the law.

Advocate article

quote:

Police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. released new details about the crash Thursday in response to questions about where exactly the car seat was positioned. He said it was "on top of the center console, wedged between the front passenger seat and the driver's seat."

Coppola said Stephens described the location of the car seat to investigators after the accident.

quote:

Coppola clarified Thursday that there were five seats and eight people in the vehicle. Police have said none of them were wearing seat belts.

Her kids dead forever so that's a lifetime of punishment. Was it negligent? Absolutely and she'll pay that price and think of it forever. I think jail time is overboard. If she owned a daycare and someone else's kid was killed then I would feel differently. Community service maybe based on raising awareness about the state troopers checking it for free would be better than sending this woman to jail. I almost never agree with Denise but I do here.

Holy shite wedged between 2 front seats? They could have rear ended someone and possibly killed the kid. Her actions were a contributing factor in the child's death, so yea she should see jail time.

And crickets from C. Denise moving forward. As usual, she opened her mouth before she knew anything about the situation. Where is that LSU Law Professor who said this arrest was because of race? Idiots. All of them.

Being in a car seat not strapped down is the same thing.

Well, that's just dumb.

Eh. The omission of the carseat being wedged onto the center console is a rather egregious omission either from the police report, or the Advocate news report. Or both. And something that legitimizes the negligent homicide arrest.

It wasn't like the arrest came right after the accident where the facts are being sorted out...this should have been made clear from the get-go, IMO.

Police and state troopers will check your car seat for you for free. If it is installed incorrectly, they will fix it for you. C'mon people.

She didn’t attach the car seat because there were eight people in the car.....not enough room. “I’ll just hole Seairah in my lap...she’ll be fine.”

ETA: 8, not 7.

You realize you're replying to posts made before the update.

The initial report made it seem like the arrest was on a technicality. Not that the kid was on the console.

Not really, they made it pretty obvious that the car seat wasn't secured. They just didn't get into the details of how blatantly it wasn't secured. Whether it was wedged on the console or just sitting in the back, it's still pretty terrible.

And you won't hear anything out of her again until the next issue like this arises where she can scream racism only to be proved wrong.

And I updated my post to have both quotes to show how dumb fricks, like Caterpillar, are in jumping to conclusions.

They said lack of properly securing the seat to the vehicle, and loose straps. This makes it sound like (to me, at least) that the clips were in place, just not tightened.
