Use the Force to get in group 1 or you're a puss flap.

You can tell from where you enter the queue for the ride, there is going to be different entrances for stand by and fast pass in the future.
Since this ride just opened, I applaud Disney for using the virtual queue to handle the swarm of people trying to ride this for the first time.
OP, we got in the park for 7:45, opened the app at 8:00 and got group 39.
Left the park and went to Epcot because the crowd at HS was stupid packed.
Rode Skyliner back when we got the call.

This is the saddest thing I’ve read here if you’re being serious
The saddest thing for me is when I have spent all that money on tickets and lodging for my family to be there and realize that unless the fast passes are planned 60 days in advance even in the 'off times' when we chose to go that we still cannot do a ton of things we want to without a fight. Dealing with having little kids with big kids and crowds where you have to wait more than 40 minutes for a Small World is enough to make me never want to go back to the hellhole called Disney.
The fact that you have to do all of that gives you a fighting chance for the new Star Wars rides but that is still absurd. Too many hoops to go through for the price you pay to be there in my opinion. It shouldn't be that hard.

We did DW and DL last 3 years and after doing DL last Memorial Day weekend I’m not sure I’ll ever go back to DW.
It was wonderful. It was a blackout SoCal and Season pass weekend and LA and Anaheim schools were still in through early June. Never waited more than 20 minutes for a ride at both parks. Rode everything 3x in two days. Stayed at a Fairfield across the street and paid $160 a night and walked across to the park every morning.
No buses and way fewer fatties in scooters. Plus we were able to go to Huntington Beach and San Diego and roll it into a week long trip vs being trapped inside DW
Oh yeah and it was sunny and 65 every day... in late May.

I took the kids and wife last week. The buses let me down on Hollywood studios day. I called an uber at 7:20 and with traffic didn't get in line until 7:50. I walked in park at 8:04 and missed it. Still had a great time. Fast passes worked out for us and the longest we waited with an 8, 6 and 4 year old was 60 minutes and that was for avatar boat ride at any park.

What time do I need to get to park to get in line? Any tips? Thanks in advance.
You do what you need to do to be in the park with your ticket scanned by 7:30 am so that you can hit the button on the app at 8 am. Then check everyone that is with you.
We got there at 6:30 am. Group 36. It made for a long day. The ride broke right before we got on but we got a fast pass to return whenever we wanted. It was a cool one time thing not sure I would go through the process again.

Don't spend $1000s to wait in lines with the people of Wal-mart.

Disney greed knows no bounds. Once upon a time it was a nice family outing. Now a pre planned rush to wait. No thanks.

Buy some VIP tickets for one day.
100% worth the money
Disney VIP tours
With the VIP tours, there is no waiting. They take you to the front of the line.
We went to Universal in Oct and did their VIP one day. It was great.

Sure, so just roll up to the ride and say I know Boo Krewe and and I’m in? Sounds like a plan.

And in a few years, there will be an Elite Platinum VIP where you pay even more to get to the front of the line.

Any of those will need a fast pass unless you like standing for 4 hours.
No ride is worth standing more than 2 hours althought I've done for meeting with anna/elsa.

What is Disney supposed to do?
Yes they have raised ticket prices constantly but its so busy because that many people are still going.
I mean lets be real, Opening an app at 8AM and clicking a few buttons is super convenient for getting to ride the newest ride.

We got here at 7am and drew lucky number 119, the que is currently 82 at 4:45pm bc the ride broke down earlier. Crossing our fingers. I’m going to blow a gasket if we don’t get on.
