No. There was a high profile murder he did a shite job of investigating that still remains “unsolved.”

It's tough to vote a sheriff out of office in Louisiana, even when everyone knows the sheriff is a dirtbag. Many thanks to Couvillion for taking a punch.

I am amazed at how big of a deal people want this to be, and it's just not. Hell I think Randy "Boss Hog" Seal losing his election in WP got more responses.

Randy had a press conference back then at the beginning of the investigation and told everyone that Steven Krentel was cleared. He even let him back on the property before the coroner realized Nanette had been shot. So dumb.

A lot of what Steven did and said should have lead to him being a suspect.

*He offered a theory of how the fire started at the house. He said it may have been lightening. (guilty people do this shite all the time.)
*Of all of the security cameras at the house, none were working the day of the fire.
*He was having an affair with a colleague.
*He told everyone Nanette knew about the affair and was fine with it. (Her family and friends said she absolutely would not have been ok with it.)
*Some of his most sentimental posessions were moved from the house to a separate shed (that did not burn) before the fire.

Hopefully the new sheriff will take a look at this investigation and solve it.

Anyone know when the next sheriff's election is supposed to be held? I tried to look online but couldn't find a clear answer. Do they have to schedule a special election or will the interim be in charge until the next regular election?

St. Tammany Sheriff Randy Smith has announced he will retire on Wednesday.

Smith made the announcement on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to a second-degree battery charge and a misdemeanor charge.

He was given two years plus 90 days for the misdemeanor and will be on probation and required to complete a specialty program.

This comes after the community called for Smith's resignation following a physical fight at a Northshore steakhouse last month.

Chief Deputy Jeff Boehm submitted his resignation on Tuesday.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, Deputy Chief Bret Ibert has been promoted to Chief Deputy and will serve as interim sheriff until a new sheriff is elected.

"After 40 years in law enforcement serving the citizens of St. Tammany Parish, I am announcing my retirement as Sheriff of St. Tammany Parish.

It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve this community. Prior to being elected Sheriff, I served as Chief of Police for the City of Slidell for six years. For more than a decade as your Sheriff, my focus has always been on providing the highest quality of public service while ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens.

During my tenure, we have achieved many accomplishments together. We improved pay and benefits for our deputies, invested in advanced equipment and training, maintained one of the lowest crime rates in more than a decade, and achieved a 95% case clearance rate. We expanded to four patrol districts, increased manpower, improved response times, and enhanced visibility throughout our growing parish. We established a Crisis Intervention Team, strengthened our Criminal Narcotics Division, expanded community outreach efforts, enhanced technology across the agency, and implemented the School Resource Officer Program.

I am proud to leave this agency stronger than when I was elected. None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the dedication and professionalism of the men and women of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

After much thought and consideration, I believe retiring at this time is in the best interest of the agency, my family, and the citizens of St. Tammany Parish. Effective immediately, Deputy Chief Bret Ibert is promoted to Chief Criminal Deputy, Chief Civil Deputy, and Second in Command. In accordance with state law and agency protocol, Chief Deputy Ibert will serve as Interim Sheriff until a new Sheriff is elected.

My final day as Sheriff will be June 24, 2026, at 1 pm.

Thank you for the trust and support you have given me throughout my career. Serving the people of St. Tammany Parish has been the greatest honor of my professional life."

St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper has issued the following statement regarding the retirement of Sheriff Randy Smith:

"I want to thank Randy for his years of service as both Sheriff and Slidell Police Chief and wish him and his family well. While these circumstances are unfortunate, I respect his decision to resign and believe it allows our community to move forward."

at least cooper has the balls to say he resigned and didn’t “retire”.
