Damn. Read the Sheriff’s response he wrote. It's at a link in the news story. He is big mad and not backing down.

The court heard oral arguments in the case the morning of Aug. 9 and affirmed the lower court’s ruling before close of business on the very same day
Wow. St Tammany Sheriff’s Office setting all time records in federal appeals court upholding their ineptitude.

He swore he would only serve 2 terms. He's now running for the 3rd term.
I heard the excuse he is giving is because he had so much to clean up during his first term from the previous administration.
Also heard he wanted his top brass to get twelve years, I believe vesting is ten years.

Cant read the article.
But what was he arrested for?
Criticizing the department?
or was there an actual charge here?

Unfortunately, i'm sure he'll get re-elected even though he is probably one of the dumbest individuals in politics i've ever come across. He swore he would only serve 2 terms. He's now running for the 3rd term. I'm pretty sure the guy running against him doesn't have enough clout or support to give him a run for his money.
All true. The lack of viable candidates is really discouraging.

A year or so ago, I filed a similar case where the deputies arrested a man for criminal defamation (the charge in the Rogers case also). The statute had long been deemed unconstitutional and the arrest was made in retaliation for criticism of the deputies.
The case ultimately settled.

Smith Deposition
Wow, some great stuff in there. In order to avoid guilt (civil or criminal) he has to plead utter ignorance and incompetence, which probably isn't far from the mark anyway.

Q. Okay. So if I'm understanding you correctly, Culpeper told you that they had enough to meet the elements of criminal defamation, but he didn't tell you what the elements of criminal defamation were, correct?
A. That is correct.
Q. Nor did anyone else tell you what the elements of criminal defamation were, correct?
A. They did not.
Q. Nor did you do any research or anything else to find out what the elements of criminal defamation were, correct?
A. I did not.

Q. Understand. So sometime after Jerry Rogers' arrest, did you read the criminal defamation statute?
A. I have not, no, sir.

There was a long thread on here about that. If I remember the OP on that said that the husband murdered her and the cops covered it up. Looks like they got away with it.
Yeah the husband is a pretty shady dude, it wouldn’t shock me one bit if he did it.
Who else could better cover up arson than a fire chief because he was fire chief of a district in Covington. He is pretty connected that murder was 100% covered up
