Maybe because the investigation is not complete and they are still interviewing witnesses
Even Johnson said they are trying to track down witnesses and none of them are ever home.

So now the Black Panthers and other racial organizations are accepted by the govt.
I have my own thoughts about them that are probably pretty much along the same lines as yours but they did help keep peace the best they could last night. They pushed protesters back when needed. They tried to get people off of the streets. My take is it's Johnson's attempt to keep his potential enemies close and in the meantime use them for your own cause.

State of Federal Emergency can bring the FBI in, no?
I believe a state of emergency only allows the GOVERNOR to activate the national guard.

How can Holder take over an investigation if there isn't a civil rights violation or a federal crime?
There is a civil rights violation investigation. That's exactly what it is. He can't file charges on it if there isn't an investigation first to determine if they're even warranted. Do you just want him to file charges first, then do the investigation? What if it turns out the cop was justified?

Just as importantly is you can't say We are bff's but show up in armored vehicles. Talk about mixed messages. One route or the other.
He needs to do what some of you argue the rest of us are not doing. Differentiate between the good and bad. Comfort the good but ruthlessly defend against the bad.
But we all know how that would get interpreted

As many of these folks have probably been convicted of crimes or have had relatives convicted... you'd think they'd have a better idea how the process works.

Have her protect the doors to the weave store tonight.

That woman doesn't know what she is talking about or how the law works if she is asking a question like that.

I think the only objection I have seen is when some posters (not you) fail to acknowledge that there are good as well as bad as you say. It's not many posters, but from time to time it pops up. Just like some pop in from time to time saying the cop is guilty.

Yes there is... But that is different then a 1st degree murder charge, which the crowd is screaming about.
Two different investigations

"Why hasn't MB been charged with strong armed robbery?" Would have elicited a much more newsworthy reaction, IMO.

I can understand that.
What gets me about last night though, that in discussions of escalation there is a presumption there (although not said) that if the police moved in after these looters that it would spread and expand. It would only do that if the innocents chose the looter side.
If the innocents were all truly trying to stop and defend, wouldn't this have been completely nipped with the extra force of the police?

Completely agree with you on this Sabi. That's honestly I think the most important question in this whole debacle. But seeing the surrender hands in protesting seems crazy to me. That seems like one of the most unlikely scenarios in this whole matter, yet that's what they've latched onto. And now that additional info has come out, interesting how they still hold onto that. No matter what, I think they've gone all in, and will allege that's what happened despite what evidence comes forth. Otherwise, they would have to admit they were.....wrong.
Exactly this. They've been wrong from the start yet keep bringing up a false set of circumstances that were a lie to begin with.

Here is how they think the system works.

What they have to do is learn, understand, trust that that is NOT how the system works. All of that stuff takes time to build and takes both sides working together on their flaws as well as working together.

Updates from the Ferguson situation, in a public meeting with MHP CPT Johnson and Gov Nixon:
The governor has declared a state of emergency for Ferguson.
There is a 0000-0500 curfew in effect, so midnight-5am is now a no-go for protests or being out on the street in general.
Police are establishing a media staging area to get press credentials and allow them in/out access of the emergency zone.
The decision not to protect businesses last night was explained in the following fashion: If police had lined up in front of businesses, it would have attracted protestors all long them, probably provoked more confrontation, and led to more conflict, at which some point the police would have either had to fight it out or leave, at which point they would have again been unprotected.

Big problem. I've seen it in some form or another in all of the 65 years I can remember.
