I agree with you but I'm also seeing a lot of them that are trying, albeit losing, to take control over their community.

I agree. Spawning a collective conscience is hard.

Well they had a chance to strike back against power, but through a lack of tactical forethought, they've failed.

So many weak spots they could have exploited.
In all their looting, did they think to get bottles for gas masks?
Charcoal?
Socks?

I completely agree with your general principle, however the appropriate course of action here is not to take it out on the small business owners, who have done nothing to provoke this.

The people that are doing this have got to at some point realize that harming the members of the community that choose to operate within the legal establishment will accomplish nothing, and only turn more people against them.

(Ftr I do not agree with the reasons for these protests, however do agree that this is something that has been building up for a lot longer than the last 5 or 6 days)

Winning this war is in losing it. They haven't figured that out (and probably not you either based on your post). You don't win by outsmarting the police tactics and killing one. You win by becoming martyrs. That doesn't mean death necessarily. It does mean gaining the moral high ground. When you're looting or chucking bottles, you don't have the moral high ground. Sitting down on the ground and getting arrested for not dispersing would be a win. The guys in riot gear dragging you off into the smoke would provide iconic images to galvanize a movement. Breaking into the weave store won't.

And this is the problem. They are using this situation as an opportunity to express a general displeasure with the status quo, when there apparantly is no real justification for the response they've exhibited (at least based on the current events)

That is not something that I can support or agree with.

Hey its entirely possible this is the catalyst to provoke an outcry against years or even generations of mistreatment, however it does not appear outwardly that this is the right way or cause to go about this

That's what I'm saying. They've lost the PR war.

And they've lost any tactical battle they had.

Find a defensible post and hunker down and make the police siegers. Then they could hold out and raise awareness.
Hunger strikes and all that.
They've lost now. Should have taken tips from the Ukrainians

I think you're projecting on to them more thought than they're giving it. I think they're nihilists and don't know it. They're not revolting. Surrendering to the void and saying life is meaningless isn't fighting a power structure. And acting basely in an animalistic sense doesn't bring positive change. I haven't worked all that out nicely and completely, but I don't think the looters have any raison d'être.

While I agree on some points. But they are accustomed to a lifestyle. Maybe this is a breaking point, maybe not. Maybe this is just a few hooligans.

But they stand for something. This country was founded on wars fought of different beliefs.

Now, I ask you. Are you content with the way our government operates? Do you think maybe they want us to be divided, after all it is easier to control a people like that.

I want to tell you one thing about Obama I was the most disappointed in. Not the policies, or the continuance of policies to invade on American's private lives carried over from Bush, the lies, which all politicians are guilty of.

It was the fact that he was the first Black president, and had the chance to unite this country like never before. But instead we are all at odds.

I think they want this, it is easier to control us divided. JMO

...and boy the media sure does jump on it, don't they

I think you're giving these protesters/looters too much credit. They just want free sh*t. Maybe some are there for a good cause, but not all.

I think you're on the money here.

Real protesting requires discipline, however, and commitment. Not just passion.

I agree 2close. From day one, I have said that the Browns (before we found out who he is) should have brought in a white leader against police brutality and militancy. There is an issue here that should and could unite all, namely the militaristic state we live in. The abuse of authority at different levels. Instead, both sides jumped right back into the old rhetoric that keeps everyone divided so that all of the discussion becomes dominated with black vs. white.

No. That's why I support protesting like a mother fricker. I was told I was stupid for supporting protesting before the information came out. I can never fault someone for wanting their government to more perfectly reflect justice. And I think that's driving the good segment of the protesters. We may disagree on Justice ideals, but justice and truth are all that holds a society together absent force. You gotta support (or at least understand) people fighting for justice.
