St louis might be the one city that is more grimy than Memphis. I witnessed a drive by shooting in St Louis the first time I visited.

It’s one of the saddest cities in the country. You can tell the way it’s built out how it used to be a rather glorious city. That’s what makes it even more sad. The downtown is just atrocious.

It’s got some nice suburbs and the Hill is kinda cool for what it is, but it’s just an otherwise completely depressing place.

Exactly. It’s clear it was a hell of a city at one point and you’re just left to wonder what happened.

How the hell does St. Louis have such a large metro population while the city itself is below 300,000 now

In the 70's everyone started moving to the first ring of suburbs. Now they're moving to outer ring #3 and all the businesses moved to suburb ring #1. Unchecked crime will do that. And even if crime rates have improved, perception has become reality.

I never used to pay top dollar for parking to go to a Cardinals game. Now I pay up and park close to the stadium with the most direct route to get back on the interstate.

It's a shame because there's a lot to like about the St. Louis metro, but the city has become a third world hole.

856k people in 1950 and less than 80 years later it's under 300k. Absolutely insane statistic.

The nice suburbs of St Louis are nicer than any place in Louisiana.

How was Clayton? Visited distant family there years ago. It seemed like an exclusive area then, but I was young and clueless. What’s it like now?

Going to the top of the arch is cool. Not the double yellow one FYI.

Agreed. Was there last year for work. Stadium area looked kinda nice and I did have one good barbecue meal but the city was in rough shape! Stayed downtown. Felt like I was staying in NO East. Would not go back.

A coworker visited that zoo when visiting family there and said how nice it is and was surprised to find it free.

The arch is cool but you couldn’t pay me to go as an adult.

The zoo used to be dope too.
