They really should demo that whole complex and plant more trees. That place was a fricking nightmare..

I heard it was bought out recently before the flood, and section 8 wasn't coming back to the complex.

I've been told they are in talks to rebuild but not keep it section 8.
There was a lot of push back when they were building those and rightfully so. Declined O'Neal lane with the quickness

This is what I heard. The Section 8 agreement expired. The owners do NOT plan to renew it. They are rehabbing the units from the flood and the obvious "other" damage that must have been done prior to the flood and will reopen as decent, non-Section 8 housing.
Time will tell, but I know a lot of people are praying that it works out as expected. The owners of that Dollar General are not counted among those people.

If this is true, then the flood was the best thing that could have happened to them.

For sure. That place turned the intersection of Harrels Ferry and O'Neal into a scene from The Wire. Pitiful.

I'm hearing similar stories about the apartments near the Flannery/Goodwood area. If true, that would be good for the neighborhood.

Rental prices in Baton Rouge have gone up a lot since the flood. Perhaps they will repair and upgrade without depending on subsidies.

How does section 8 work? The apartments are privately owned, but have to meet certain restrictions (I am assuming only charging so much for rent.. Or is it absolutely free?). If it is privately owned, what are the benefits?
I would assume if someone owns a complex and the area it is located in gradually becomes a bad area, more and more people will move out so by becoming section 8 is the best way to maximize profits?

Apartments never get nicer, only shittier with time. I'm against the building of any apartments within a 30 mile radius of my home.

So you are a 'NIMBY'? It's ok in somebody else's backyard, but not yours?

Well I'm first for people not being complete POS and destroying their dwellings and surrounding areas. But since that's just a dream, then yes, I guess I'm a NIMBY as you put it.

frick that. We're already paying the lionshare of your rent, the VERY LEAST you can do is not destroy our property values while we're at it.

LA boilers will go under without their base there to buy up hot/cold prepped crawfish and snow crab legs with their Weeziana purchase cards.

Since the politicians will never rein in HUD and stop this Section 8 destruction, all I can do is hope all Sec 8 places burn down.

Absolute shite hole now.
The amount of trash that is on the ground from S. Harrells Ferry Road to O'Neal Lane (Circle K area) to Wal-Mart is astonishing.

This would be fantastic. The duplexes and apartments right past that Winn DIxie on Old Hammond are awful as well. It's like the worst of South America meets the worst of North America. I saw people squatting in some of the downstairs apartments with no power...Not sure how that is even legal.
