Because they are presently within the boundaries of the City of StG.

In order to be annexed by City of BR, they have to be in an unincorporated part of the parish.

Because of the lawsuit, there is no parish council to approve unincorporation of these areas.

Broome and her merry band of sore losers created this problem.

Presently there is an established border set forth in the petition that has been approved by the voters. The City-Parish is purposefully delaying the finalization of the voter-approved incorporation. This is why there is the lawsuit at hand. The organizers are requesting a judgement that if St. George is to have its hands tied, then so should the City-Parish.

So, let me get this straight.

St. George organizers are suing to keep property owners from leaving St. George?

That's rich.

It sounds like the requested areas didn't meet the requirements of annexation. If BR is once again thumbing their nose at the laws governing a process, anyone could/should be opposing it. Whether or not they're involved with St George.

What's troubling is the void of oversight/retaliation for a government group habitually trampling the law.

That's exactly what the lawsuit contends. The City-Parish has held SG organizers feet to the fire on legalities, yet has pushed the envelope the entire time. It's time they follow the law as well.

I haven’t followed too closely, why did they request to be annexed back into BR?

St. George derives it's revenue from sales tax, not property tax. The businesses in United Plaza do not generate any sales tax

Oh I must have misread this:

The petition goes on to call the annexation an attempt to "deprive the City of St. George of revenues" from those properties.

Checking in to say St George has no chance of ever being approved by voters or ever even making it onto a ballot.

There will be after all the litigation is done; the people voted it in.

They were never in Baton Rouge. They were unincorporated, just like the rest of SG.
