I am a lifelong BR resident, and I obviously love a lot about our area. That being said, if we couldn't have afforded PreK-12 private schooling for our kids, we would have 100% moved out of this parish.

It is impossible to keep talent in Baton Rouge, much less bring in new talent, if we don't have a functioning school system. You shouldn't have to choose between very expensive private school tuition or what we have now.

I erred in using racist to describe the optics of a white governor appointing an all-white municipal government leadership team.

Bigoted or prejudiced may be more accurate terms to describe how this looks. It certainly reinforces the accusations in national media posts that St. George is a white enclave in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Another poster correctly stated that those in charge could care less about optics.

I reside in pretty much the center of Shenandoah Estates, I fully support the right of voters within the St. George boundaries to choose incorporation & self governance. I hope the SC of La quickly addresses & establishes clearly the legally official date of incorporation so there can be a clean "break" & the local process can ramp up to full speed.

Any municipal incorporation would jump at the chance to out source & privatize "everything" without being handcuffed with civil service rules & regulations, required government retirement systems, etc. EBRP government is forced to operate within inefficient systems established decades ago.

Moving forward the appointed leadership would be wise to remember that pretty much 4 out of 10 voters who participated were not in favor of incorporation.

Every EBRP citizen who is eligible to vote should make it a point to vote this fall. Had all done so in the past perhaps our mayor would be Bodi White & he'd be running for re-election for the second time.

The optics of a white governor appointing a white mayor, white police chief and 5 white aldermen are horrible & undergird the claims St. George is "all white." And white judge Hunter Greene performed the sweating-in.

The demographics within the boundaries are not all white, but man this looks terribly racist.

The ole race card.

These people are out of ideas...and aren't smart enough to win this battle.

Right. Basically private school should be something you opt to do for various reasons not something you're essentially forced to do because of a completely inadequate school system

Honestly not sure why this set up has been tolerated for so long

Didn’t she already get dismissed from the case for no standing at the JDC level?

I want to say she was one of the three original plaintiffs with SWB and Cole. One got tossed at the JDC level, SWB got tossed at appeal. I think Cole got tossed at the state SC.

Nah Cole got to stay unfortunately. MOP is not a party in the case. She's on the legal team for Cole. She's such a loose canon that they wisely muzzle her in court proceedings, but she breaks loose as soon and she gets out and spies a microphone.
