Wow, I hate to hear this from the OP. Always enjoyed the Neville Tiger score updates during football season and now that I am back in Funroe, was hoping I could meet a fellow grad of that fine institution of learning on Forsythe Ave.
I know its kinda frowned on here but I will keep you in my prayers and if you need any intell on H-town let me know because this post is gospel. Get to MD Anderson yesterday. They are top notch and you need the best.

Yeah a lot of information that's isn't there. The thing about that type of cancer is that by time you notice any symptoms its already in late stages and not much they can do at that point.
Hopefully the doctor found it in time especially since it was found during surgery. Best of luck.

I've had 23 surgeries in that area over the years so I think they would have caught it if I have had it for awhile

I would rather have the renal cancer.
Rectal cancer staging is super important. Again if this is a localized small mass on colonoscopy could be completely cured with surgery +/- a round of chemo.
Need more info.

Been hearing a lot more about him lately, sounds like he might shoot up to a top 10 spot in the draft.

My advice?
Get off the OT. Love on your family. Focus on the moment. Stop googling. Monday will come, and ain’t nothing to do in the meantime.

Yeah well I commented on when it said renal, but which any cancer it really is all about timing. Stage 1 and 2 can mean just a sugery and minimal treatment. While stage 3 and 4 obviously means you would need a lot more, and of course nothing is never promised with any stage.
Unfortunately, cancer isn't black or white. But you want rectal cancer before renal 100%. And the main therapy for the rectal cancer is typically just surgery.

my dad had squamous cell carcinoma but I can't remember if it was rectal or anal. Whichever one it was, he was originally diagnosed with the other, and it was originally stated that he would need surgery to remove the section and then have a colostomy bag installed permanently.
The diagnosis was then corrected to the other and surgery was then taken of the table.
Between radiation and chemo, he was eventually given a clean bill of health (probably after a year and a half or so). He actually made it through this part relatively easy. No hair loss, he probably aged a bit faster, but otherwise we were all pretty pleased with the results.
Unfortunately, several years later, that squamous cell shite spread to his brain and lungs. Surgery was successful in removing the brain tumor, and chemo was used on the spots on each lung. Three years of treatments and hospital visits later, he passed away. The treatments basically kept the tumors from getting huge, but were unsuccessful in keeping them from spreading. It ended up on his kidneys, liver, etc.
All this to say, make sure you stay on your insurance and doctors to ensure that you get full body scans if possible, even if you think you are in the clear. The brain tumor showed up out of nowhere and after a few weeks of headaches, grew to the size of a softball.

Doctor said surgery was not an option at this time

If this is the case that's great news, it should be localized hopefully. Hopefully one surgery and you can be on your way! Praying for you
Lived around MD Anderson my entire life almost, My mom is a Stage IV non Hodgkin lymphoma survivor. You'll beat this man!

Also best advice to give for anyone with cancer is
STAY OFF THE INTERNET
Just don't google about it, it'll drive you crazy and make any situation feel hopeless
You can google headache and it'll say brain tumor is the cause. It's dumb.

This has to be a pain in the arse

Get yourself a second opinion. Even if you decide you want to treat it at home get another opinion. You want to make sure that the diagnosis and treatment is the same across the board. Go with whomever you trust and you have a level of convenience with. I had places to stay short or long term in both Houston and New Orleans for free. This was huge. I went with Houston and MDA. I wanted somewhere who sees 1000s of cases like mine instead of the 1-2 my Lafayette oncologist treats per year.
Good luck!! Praying for you and your family.

Stage IV colon/rectal diagnosis in February 2016. 3 surgeries & chemo in 8 months, thought I had beat it came back in Feb 2017 same place and spread to bladder. Only option was let it win or full removal of internal organs below the belly button basically. Two full time ostomy bags, one for shite one for piss. No prostate, no bladder, no colon, no anus. That happened in August 2017.
Sucks but strangely you adjust. Main problem is it opens you up to other cancers. I've got spots in my breast and neck now that "may" be something but aren't big enough to know just yet. Which makes no sense to me since they've already spent two million to keep my dumb arse alive.
Conventional medicine will drive you insane but I tried the oils and cbd shite and a bunch of other holistic approach type shite and none of that works either.
It's been liberating when I'm not losing people I love unexpectedly.
