Yes but it takes longer than a week or 2 for grass to fully heal. Bamafan should be here shortly to back this up

My first 15-20 swings I won't even have a ball placed...will just carve out a 3'x3' area using an old PW and fill it with sand to practice my game out of a trap. Want to make sure I work on all aspects of my game.

Here's a vid that shows how little the linear route takes if executed properly

I'm a year round golfer, I enjoy the etiquette of the game. I'm just not sure that's feasible after 60 balls. Especially if you take divots.

Is this thread only about range etiquette?

That's the least of your issues.

Every Golfer should visit Souyh West Florida during the winter. I have played in long pants twice have not used a sweater once. 160 golf courses within a 50 mile radius. 99% are condition wise od C C of La. And U Club.
Free range balls, I can play these courses for $25 to $45 dollars during the summer.

From a healing standpoint I don't see how it's that much better than the scattered method. But if you use less space each time you hit, and they don't have to move the range lines as often, it should over time promote a better, more consistent teeing area.

Let's talk pace of play as well. I walked 9 by myself yesterday morning. I know a single has no priority on the course but there was a twosome on #3 when I teed off. I caught them on #4 and had to wait every shot after that. I am by no means a good golfer but these two guys were terrible. One of them was trying to teach the other one how to play and the one teaching looked like he had only played about twice. They would each take two or three on every tee and hack it all the way to the green. They were also dragging their feet on every damn green

I'm off the 25th thru the 27th. I plan to play golf at least three times during my 5 day weekend. I don't really know how I'm going to handle it.

It is feasable. 20-25 divots in each linear path is what is suggested. You are only taking about one inch of grass each time you make a new swing.

I agree with this, I have problems with waiting as a single on the courses around Baton Rouge sometimes, and I walk a good bit too. If I had to suggest something, if someone has waited around 2 holes on you to finish yours, let them through.

You may have to wait for them to play through for a few minutes, but it's the right thing to do and both parties will play stress free - no one will feel rushed, and no one will feel slowed down.

The driving range one is a good habit, I personally like hitting balls in the line, but getting all folks to do it that way will probably be slim to none.

Hit'em well boys!

Am I really expected to be a groundskeeper on the range, too? I have no problem sanding my divots on the fairway or fixing my ball marks on the green. But I'm not giving a single frick on the range.

I've heard of courses doing this in places where they struggle with money/man-power to keep the range up. It's a great way to do it, but it's still a driving range, getting everyone to do it will be hard.

Augusta's greens keeper couldn't keep the teeing area of a range in good shape if people are leaving 2x2 patches of bare dirt or 60 scattershot divots every time they practice. If you watch the video, you'll see that the guy hitting balls takes roughly a second to set up his linear divots. Not like they're asking you to throw down fertilizer
