my wife's company does it at 2:00 on a workday so they don't have to buy booze. Her X mas present is a gift card to boutique shoe store for $100. But her yearly bonus is mid 5 figures

She'll take the bonus and cheap xmas party every time

The point of a work Christmas party is to get a little drunk and let your hair down and have fun. All your spouse is gonna do is keep you way too reserved and hold back what fun you would have had.

Because where do you draw the line?

You gonna let Mia the receptionist bring her tattoo artist boyfriend as well?

Are you going to let Paul bring his flaming gay hair stylist boyfriend?

Then mixed in with all the other freaks and normal people is a recipe for disaster.

You don't wanna believe this but your wife has, at best, an inappropriate friendship with a male coworker. She doesn't want you there.

Any of you ever experience this?

Had these in Scotland when I was there.

Each year I learned about a new affair about 6months later. One time one of my managers was sleeping with a subordinate (both married to other people) had to transfer both of them. Also had a team member start sleeping with a manager from another department, he was engaged to someone else at the time. She moved in with him and her job performance went south.

Then we had a female considered high potential, who was married, start an affair with a peer at the party one year. We had to transfer them out as well. She’s still a high flyer.

I could add more to this but you get the idea.

My husband's company always allows spouses/SOs to go.

I like going to his holiday party every year. His company spends $$$ on their holiday party. And it's a fun excuse to get really dressed up.

Most wives historically aren't cool with hookers and blow.

I’m not getting how that time makes that rule acceptable.

European companies are so funny, can't fire anyone...I was in Italy talking with a large leather clothing designer, he said we transfer all to the store/ location we are about to close..only way to fire people

Been on both sides of this. Some companies do employees only to save on cost in the long run. With catering companies charging what they do per person, I can understand this.

My wife's last two employers have been very good at having employees and spouses attend their Christmas parties and they don't skimp in their catering with great food and top shelf brands of liquor at their bars. We Uber to these events just in case we over-indulge just to be safe.
