I don't personally care about sports betting. Get me some legal poker rooms and then I'll get excited.

Sweet baby Jebus, please let this happen.

Do you have any idea how much awesome a good sports book is on an early college football saturday?!

Good A/C, cold beer, hot waitresses, any food you want, the season is still wide open so every team is playing like they have a chance, and 14 straight hours of football with every game playing on a giant wall of TVs and people in little windows ready to let you make some kind of gamble at pretty much any moment.

I feel confident it won't be allowed in the majority of the "SEC" states.

Seeing as this is a Supreme Court ruling, the SEC states can’t really block shite.

PASPA is a joke, I listened to the audio of the oral arguments and the Court seemed to clearly side with New Jersey

The headline of the thread is misleading. What the court is ruling on is whether the federal government can prohibit sports betting in some states while exempting others. The states can still prohibit it regardless of this federal ruling. But there are a few SEC states that already allow other forms of gambling so I would expect those to follow suit.

This isn't an equal protection question, like Obergefell or Roe, where the plaintiffs are asking for the same rules across the country. Right now, federal law prohibits states from legalizing sports booking, which is what New Jersey is challenging. They are using the 10th Amendment argument that Congress has no power to regulate it nationwide.

So, the SEC states could regulate it even after a ruling for New Jersey. As pointed above, Mississippi says they are ready to go, but I am betting (ha!) Alabama would not allow it any time soon. Or if we did, it would be limited to a very small number of sites, like the video bingo at dog tracks we already have. (It has to do with the AL constitution prohibiting gambling except for charity purposes.)

Louisiana will probably block it still somehow, or tax it at like 40%
