Spinoff: What are property taxes in your community?

With the talk of rising sales taxes in Louisiana, makes me wonder,Just for comparison, what would property taxes be in different places (city, countryside) on say a $250 K house?
Alabama has low property taxes. I'd pay anywhere from about $700 a year in the county to maybe high end $2000 a year in a city like Tuscaloosa or Birmingham.

Think my house is valued close to that and I pay about $1,800 a year between parish and city

With homestead exemption that would be 2400 in parts of east Baton Rouge parish. In an adjacent parish (east Feliciana) which is rural it would be 925ish. Huge swings in this area.

Just outside BR area 250k house with homestead exemption is about 1500. Prob closer to 1800 as others have said.

Here in the dfw area the sales tax is around 8%, no income taxes, and house county assessed value of ~$232k (market ~$279k) paid ~$6300 in property taxes.

That's not that bad at all

Orleans parish certainly isn't cheap but home values are higher here than almost anywhere in the state.

my rental in Abita Springs is worth close to that I think I pay 3400 with no exemption
primary in unincorporated Candeville. 4300 living is $7k with exemption.

Being that most of the property taxes go to the school district, it isn't bad at all.

That's close to what I pay in state taxes alone and I still have to pay property tax on top of it. Plus you get a good school system to boot.

Dallas proper
8.25 sales tax
300k appraised value - $8000 in property taxes... Half goes to the local Independent school district, the rest goes to Dallas.
Keeping property taxes local and out of a centralized group like income taxes makes all the difference.

I pay 3.1%
In Texas, so not a state income tax. Since we have good schools it is a great trade off versus Louisiana. No state income tax and I don't have to pay for private schools.

We live in a small town about 40 miles west of Atlanta. We have a city school system for our town but also have a county system. The City School system is consistently ranked top 3-5 out of about 150 in Ga.. But we pay dearly for it. We have a 3800 Sq ft house that is in the $300-$320k range and our property tax last year was $3700.
Bear in mind that 20% of our students are out of district and OOD tuition is $1500 per kid but maxes out at $4000 for a family. We have 4 kids in school here so we had to decide 4 years ago if we wanted to continue to pay $4000 and drive 20 miles twice a day for drop off and pick up or get a home within a mile of every school and pay the high property tax. We were spending between $500-$600 a month in gas just to get back and forth to school. The move made our life a lot easier and saved us a lot of money when factoring everything.

Built a new home in Humble, TX in a new community called The Groves. Tax rate (County, MUD, School, etc...) is 3.73% of appraised property value of $360K. Estimating all in taxes for 2016 will be approximately $12,500 with homestead exemption. Schools are great and no state income tax.

Most I ever paid was on my home in L.A. and that was $7949 a year for a home that was 1455 sq ft.....and that was on top of the ridiculous state income tax

Like 10k. But got a little further north and you start getting 13-14k/year.
