Raised Catholic and raising my kids Catholic. Unlike other Christian faiths, we do not follow a pastor around or choose a particular church based on a priest. We belong to a Parish and follow the Church's teachings. So when these monsters, who represent the Catholic church, do what they do - it stings. It pisses me off. It does not, however, shake my faith. It is kind of like being an American. You may disagree with the folks running the country. You may not like the direction things are going, but you are not going to move to another country if you love this one. It is the country we are in, we believe in the constitution. We believe in the principles of this great country. Same with Catholicism.

While the sex abuse is scandals are deplorable, it is entirely neglectful and astigmatic to ignore the plethora of great things the Catholic church has done for humanity.

<----Also, not a Catholic.

I get not agreeing with the goings on of the church. But if it's truly the abuse that is the trigger, how do you change your belief system based on people obviously sinning.
That is what I have been getting at too.

Are you religious because you beleive in certain teachings of god, or are you religious because you follow men and organizations. I feel alot of protestants/non-denomination follow the man preaching it more than the word

Satan’s number one target are leaders of churches. Nobody is perfect and we all sin including church leaders. Doing good deeds will not get you into heaven. That being said just having a great deal of knowledge about the Bible does not mean your heart belongs to Jesus and those people will not go to Heaven.

No but holding off on donations until they fix things. When the money dries up, they’ll clean it up in a hurry.

No, I am fighting within the church to get rid of the gay priests.

Peter and the rest did not leave Christ because of Judas...

It really isn't any different than Episcopalians. What about Presbyterians? Lutheran?

Yes. We are now Scientologists. I did my research and found they are the most honest religion and always on the up and up.

Well that’s because Jesus was the leader, not Judas.

I'm not sure about Methodist, but Episcopalians definitely do not. The differences between the two (Episcopal Church and Catholic Church) are slight.

Some of these responses are the perfect example of why I don't believe in organized religion. Too many worship the organization rather than Jesus/God. Thou shall have no other gods before me includes whatever faith and leaders of that faith you are worshiping

And if you're faith spends one second telling you its better than another faith....Christianity, you're doing it wrong.

For any of you raised Catholic, have the sex abuse scandels prompted you to leave the church and look elsewhere? If you left for a different religion, what church did you join and what has your experience been like?

We were Catholic but now go to Healing Place Church.

HPC > Vatican. The scandals aren't as disturbing.

In the Methodist Church Clergy appointments are made annually but the Bishop. IDK how that differs from that Catholic Church.

It is fair and just. You know the requirements and it is up to you. Example, everyone has a winning powerball ticket for 1 billion dollars. You just need to bring it to a set location and cash it. Are you telling me that you can be the most kind giving person in the world and you won’t get the money if you don’t bring your ticket in.... yes. The murderer who brings his ticket in will get the money...yes. That is retarded but it is still your decision.

I listened to a documentary of an atheist who commited suicide when she was 15. She went straight to Hell. She said she commited suicide b/c she wanted the pain to end but little did she know the pain had just begun. This is on coast to coast if you are a subscriber. I encourage you to listen to her testimony.

You do know that Jesus was a Temple-attending Sabbath-keeping Jew right. As hypocritical as the Pharisees were, he still understood the significance of right worship to the Father.
