I think it is because DWIs in Canada are viewed more along the lines of robbery, assault, and other violent crimes in their judicial system or they may be equivalents of a felony there. Most are just misdemeanors in US.

Hmmm. I'll have to read up on that. I've been to Canada numerous times but all before you needed a passport. I don't have a DUI conviction anyway.

Affected my pay when I was in the military(made pennies on the dollar back then so in reality it didn’t hurt that much) has had zero affect on my professional life after.
20+ years later and still winning.

If you work in the financial industry, you are registered with FINRA and you have to disclose if you’ve been arrested. I’ve seen some hilarious arrest disclosures. “I was at a Greatful Dead concert in 1985 and got arrested for marijuana”. “I was arrested for throwing away excess garbage by using the dumpster behind Kroger”

Yes a few times

When a company says the 3rd party background check goes back only 7 years, don't believe them.

Also if you have had your record expunged and withheld, don't trust it. There is always a record. Even for minor victimless crimes.

If you have been fingerprinted by the cops, no matter how minor, it remains indefinitely along with the reason. The only difference is the ability of people to get the record. I had an arrest when I was a minor come up in a voir dire during a murder trial I was a potential juror for. This was in another state from the original arrest which was over 30 years ago.

Never, I used my white privilege to erase the fact that an arrest occurred, and the charges were dropped.

ETA: I’ve always checked “no” on the arrest question when applying for jobs, and have had a few background checks and it’s never come up.

No.

I did eat some acid one night before an interview and ended up staying up all night and bombing the interview.

No, but I haven't interviewed since 2004. They didn't do drug tests back then either, but I had to take a lie detector test for a sales position. Lots of questions about drug use and theft from previous employers.

You got arrested for a poker tournament?

Yes, in Illinois.

Guy who ran it, told us all, since some of it goes to Charity(old folks golf tourney), we were in the clear and it was ok. Tourney was at golf course, even the Mayor of the small city came by.

Well, little did we know, dude running tourney, got into a big brew haha with his OL, and she called the state cops, not locals, and they raided the tourney. It was in fact illegal to play poker, since in Illinois, at the time, you could not touch your cards.

State wanted to drop charges, but County we were in, wanted to gouge us for some cash. they only got $100 a piece from us, but still got some from us.
