If there were other planets outside of our solar system then they would be too cold to sustain life.

I care a little. I would care a lot if there was more than wishful thinking and statistics being offered as proof.

I can write $1,000,000 on the balance line of my checking account book, but $1,000,000 won't magically appear in my checking account.

I don't make it a daily thought or worry about it.

But I have a hard time believing that the entire Universe exists solely for Earth born humans. That's an awful lot of time & space wasted on 1 liveable planet.

I believe that we are simply too young of a species to have figured out to effectively travel through space & more than likely other alien beings don't really bother with us because we're so behind. We're basically mosquitoes to them.

Yes, but thankfully the vast majority are either benevolent or neutral and respectful of the law of free will.

They have been here on earth longer than us. Might as well care about them.

I want to advance the human race. So, finding simple cell organisms under a massive ocean on another planet doesn't really do it for me.

I was replicators , holo-decks, teleportation , and warp drive.

hey what a suprise. Some dumb drunk doesnt understand how large space is.

To answer the ops question, how could you not care if there is life on other planets. It is one of the most fascinating things to think about.

Me personally, I don't give a damn if there's life out there. I just hope they're not a-holes.

Depends...

Do they have stuff we can steal from them?

Resources, Technology, Women...

If not, I have no interest in life on other planets.

From an ecological standpoint, yes.

That would mean they are or will eventually become competitors.

I'm inclined to believe that if the mathematical odds are in favor of intelligent life out there, there is also mathematical odds in favor of at least one population of intelligent life with billions/hundreds of millions of years head start on us technology-wise.

Therefore I believe we would have been contacted and likely wiped out by now.

If by some miracle we are the most advanced population in the universe, I would have considered that mathematically very unlikely, and thus by design.

I don't care and think it is a huge waste of our tax dollars to keep looking. Until there is no hunger and people that can't afford adequate healthcare in the US, we should be focusing our money elsewhere.
