I received a speeding ticket from LSP the other morning on I-10 west approaching Bonnet Carree’. Those who make this commute in the morning usually see a trooper there. He said I was going 81 in a 60. I wasn’t going to argue but I was just going with traffic.

He only asked me for my drivers license but not for my insurance and registration. Once he handed me the ticket he told me to wait a week then call the number for the St. Charles Parish traffic court to pay over phone.

Anywho, since he he only checked my DL I assume this won’t be reported to my insurance, right?

FWIW, this was my first speeding ticket in over a decade. Yay white privilege!

Wrong! Checking whether you have insurance has nothing to do whether the state reports your guilty plea to the insurance company.

Don't plead guilty. In St. Charles, they just want the money. Call the DA and see if you can get it knocked down to a non-moving violation and just pay the fine. I think they do that as a matter of course in St. Charles.

They can pull your insurance information from your registration.

It can still be reported to insurance since points go against your license. He was just checking for a warrant. Call and see if you can do a driving program to get it reduced to a non-moving violation.

One mo time, the state, parish, city do not report tickets to insurance companies, evauh. It will not be see by your insurance company unless; you add comprehensive/collision to existing or new auto, buy a new auto, change companies, add a new driver or get into an at-fault accident. Pay it and keep your nose clean and they will never know it happened (3-5 years it will fall off depending on the company). I had 3-4 tickets in 1990 in a 3 month stretch and still had the State Farm good driving discount

You weren't going to argue because you were speeding

They check insurance with a computer system because anybody could make a fake insurance card or registration

not sure if this is accurate. Guilty please get reported to the state and the insurance companies have access to state databases showing that.

Seems to me as long as you pay it on time, (and you don't have a ridiculous number of tickets)
It will not get reported to your insurance

The only reason they ask for proof of insurance is to make sure you have it.

Your insurance company will absolutely see any infractions tied to your DL#.
