Well you have to come to a COMPLETE stop first.

Any motion at all gets you a ticket for running a red light.

Things to ponder: Is speeding a good thing or a bad thing? Does speeding benefit other people that use the same roads? Why do we have speed limits? Is the violation less severe if you get caught by a camera or a cop? What is the purpose of collecting fine revenues? Who ultimately benefits from fine revenues?

I've had 4, none over 10 mph over. I had one for 10 mph over and paid that one. Had two for 7 mph over and one for 6 mph over.

Funny how we curse the use of speeding cameras to catch people breaking the law, while we install security cameras at our homes to do the very same thing.

A better analogy would be if I could set up cameras at my house to catch people speeding down my street AND have the government force those offenders to pay me fines.

I really like this idea. Outsourcing speed enforcement to qualified/certified citizens.

Lots of mixed reviews here. Still can't decide whether or not I should pay these. I have already paid a lot of these tickets.

Right now I have one for turning right on red without stopping ($25) & speeding ($50).

I really try to not speed but I guess I have a heavy foot and I speed without realizing it. Got flashed again over the weekend so I will have another ticket coming in the mail.

do you guys pay them or not?

I have gotten 3 or 4. I stupidly paid the first one, I have not paid the rest.

It's illegal for them to report that to creditors.

I had two, paid them both. Wasn't worth whatever future hassle I was going to have to put up with.

I'm sitting in a mortgage loan officer's office in Lafayette right now and she said they 100% definitely lower your credit score if not paid.

eventually got a letter that it was going to be turned over to a collection agency so I paid up!
that's the scam right there, it can't stick once sent to collections.

Why the frick would someone down vote my comment?

I'm trying to help the OP sort through these bs responses from people who are giving bad advice.

The girl's office I'm in now had a guy who wanted to refi his house. He had 3 unpaid red light camera tickets that lowered his credit score preventing him from refinancing.

I guaranty you that once the new governor (assuming it is Vitter) gets in he will start suspending the licenses of people who don't pay these companies. He may have to get legislation pushed through but he will do it since the companies are going to lobby/pay for it.

Too unpopular. No governor would get behind that.

That alone prevented it?

He must've been pretty weak overall.

I'm sure the tickets alone didn't bring him that low on their own, but they do go on your credit score and bring your score down. That's all I'm trying to get accross.

She said you can fight them, but it's a huge headache and you have to go to all 3 credit agencies and challenge them.

In Orleans Parish, if you do not pay even one you get put on the boot list. I know this because I got one in my wife's car and did not pay it. She got booted while parked legally downtown. They have vans that roll around and scan license plates for violators. Still haven't paid the ones I got in my car. I just park in private lots.
