I don't even know why they call these "special sessions" anymore. JBE has called them every year he's been in office.

Lets say that person spends most of his pay because that is what the middle class do. He could pay 10% in sales tax. So, an additional $3,000 easily. Then another $2,000 in property taxes.

A person in Louisiana making $100,000 can easily pay over 10% in Taxes not including fees, licenses, federal taxes, etc...

Special session update: the black caucus has issued an ultimatum to increase income tax by compressing tax brackets or they won’t vote for any bill. In other words, they are blowing everything up. #lalege

What does the white caucus think?

So if you are an OT baller making $1mm per (ie really $100k ... maybe), you only pay extra on your income under $50,000. So yeah ... this REALLY fricks poor people and will no doubt hurt many people of color.

The Black Caucus is clearly filled with idiots. This hurts their own base as much as anyone. If they wanted to really attack they would increase the rate on $100k+ to 10%. Given the direction the state is headed, I'm sure that will happen soon enough.

LA is heading into the dumpster at full speed. I have always knocked Mississippi and Arkansas, but I would be hard pressed to choose which state would be worse to live in at this point.

I assume the total tax rate.

A 10% total tax burden gets LA into the top 10 or so states for highest tax burdens.

Sure if you start making shite up out of thin air

You'd have to go through the same process of tallying up the sales tax and property taxes in other states for an apples to apples comparison

In my 44 years of living, there might have been a handful of years in which it wasn't reported that Louisiana is "broke" or "over budget" or "in a budget crisis". You would think after so long of cutting jobs, departments, raising taxes, etc. that Louisiana would eventually be in good fricking shape.

This is why I think all our politicians are crooks and they're squandering our money away.

By the way, Exxon is dumping 50 billion worth of construction and work into all their plants. They passed on Louisiana.

It is important to discuss total taxes we pay. You cannot have a discussion about income taxes without including all taxes we pay. Well you can but you will get to where we are today. A big problem with our income tax rates is that they seem low all by themselves. But, people feel like they are paying far more than that and they are. We pay all kinds of taxes.

Heck there are hidden taxes in every product or service we buy because the company you buy them from has to pay taxes. So, we in effect pay the company's taxes via our payment for their service/product.

It hurts those over $50k by $500.

It raises taxes on those over $25k.
