BATON ROUGE- Its that time of year again! Flamingos have been spotted in the lakes near LSU.
The Krewe of Spanish Town flamingos are out in the university lake. Soon, kayakers will be out there plucking the birds from the water and place them in their yards.

Each year, the Krewe of Spanish Town secretly flocks the lakes, marking the beginning of the Spanish Town Mardi Gras season.LINK

Trashy symbol for an equally trashy truck parade.

Didn't some local activists declare the flamingos racist last year? Or was that just the float designs?

A couple years ago (iirc) the theme of the parade was "pink lives matter." The parade is deliberately controversial, and it should be no surprise that something like that would draw criticism.

I enjoy Spanishtown because it doesn't take itself seriously.

It really is a fun parade. I don’t haven’t been able to go the last few years but I’ve used to have an absolute blast at Spanish Town parade. Great reason to get loaded at 9:00 a.m. and party downtown all day.

They have like 3 jokes and repeat them over and over again on every float....and they are always lame as frick.
