I get about 25 spam callers a day about enrolling in health insurance a day..wish there was a way to fight these people who steal money from unsuspecting elderly people

I simply dont answer calls I don't know. If its something important my family or friends with numbers I dont know will leave a message.

I tried that. Doesn't help. As soon as the phone rings instead of giving an error message they know it's a live number.

I started pretending to be interested and wasting as much of their time as possible. That worked.

You're supposedly able to sue the spam callers for $500-$1500 for each call. Are you on the "Do not call" list?

Here's one guy who sells a "kit" to help collect money from the companies doing this. Doc Compton

I just give them my name, SSN, DOB and passwords and they leave me alone.

If I'm bored, I like answering "yes" to the questions 2 or 3 times until it's obvious that Sanjay gets to his script, and then put the phone down and laugh at them reading the long arse script before saying "hello" and "are you still there" in broken English way too many times in a row before hanging up lol.

I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem... I haven't gotten any spam calls in a long while, and then all of a sudden on Friday, it started ringing off the hook. I got over 20 calls on Friday, then another 10+ each on Saturday and Sunday. I let it ring out and then block the number every time a new one comes in. I did this last time and usually they run out of extensions or variations of the same phone number before I've blocked most of them out.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the recent AT&T data breach.

That’s the dumbest thing you can do. They will note that not only is your number active, but so are you.

I get bombarded every day as well, now I leave my phone on 'do not disturb' and phone will only ring if the calling number is in my contact list. Not whitelisted, it just bounces the call or text.

I always mess back with them. I ask them if they are selling dick pills or if they need some. Next thing you know they get all mad and hung up and they never call back.

They call my work phone all day. When it's a woman I say dirty, sexual things to her. When's it a guy I start talking about blowing out his mom's back. Sometimes I play sex sounds that I find on Spotify. Sometimes I play Indian music. Other times I try to see how far into the script I can go before I call them a dumb arse.

I have a registered website. When you do that, your information becomes public record. I get at least ten calls a day about different programs that I need for my business. (It is just my teacher site.)

I've posted this before about wasting their time.

A NOLA friend tried this and just said un huh multiple times. He got to a second home he owns in another state and found that one of his uh huh's had been used as an affirmative to transfer his electric bill to a different provider. He eventually resolved it (got back to his previous provider) but it took multiple phone calls and lots of time he didn't really want to spend that way.

I’ve never understood why people go to the effort of talking to these people. The only thing it proves is YOU don’t have a life.

I’ve heard of then doing something similar when people answer with, “Hi, this is Mary.” Then they have Mary’s voice saying her name and can use it for nefarious things - not sure how true or widespread it is.

I get 1-2 per day and they never leave a voicemail. Almost always from California or Texas and always with a different number, so it’s nearly impossible to block them all.

For people saying you can sue for monetary damages, I don’t really understand how that would ever work. The lawyer fees needed to track down Ranjesh and Patel would far outweigh any potential award, I would guess.

Don't even bother wasting your money. You're not going to collect $500 from some guy sitting in a cave in the Middle East.

You can also transfer them to 248-434-5508.

I make sure not to say "yes" just to be safe. I also give them a Bart Simpson crank call name.

If they need an address I use one that doesn't exist, like 8400 St Charles Avenue in New Orleans (that spot is in the river).
