Does Elon go down in history as second most important individual in aviation next to Wright Brothers?

I’d say easily and maybe even surpass if he keeps achieving things.

I think so. Just imagine where we are in 100 years with this being the catalyst that started it all. In 100 years we'll probably view space flight as totally normal and safe, just like we do terrestrial flight now.

The dude launched a grain silo capable of carrying humans into space, into the upper atmosphere and then landed it back on earth sitting straight up so it can be reused. This is the earliest iteration of space tourism and travel, happening before our eyes.

Pretty big moment in history, but the first successful manned mission will be slightly more important on the grand scale. That's coming pretty soon.

he's a huge visionary, but the incredible team of engineers and physicists at SpaceX are the ones making things happen

interestingly... it only took 2 engines to do the flip & burn for landing

the 3rd engine never lit

It only needs two engines running and probably can't throttle the engines deeply enough to land with 3 lit. They lost SN9 (either that one or SN8) because one of the two engines they planned to use to land failed to relight, so they slammed into the ground with 2 working engines but only 1 running engine. Now, the computers try to light all three engines and then immediately turn one off if all three ignite properly and come up to pressure. The ignition and voting one good engine off the island part happens so fast that it can be easy to miss when it happens.

Hell yeah. Hope to see 16 and 17 replicate this.
Then maybe Bn2 can pull it off without a RUD.

SN10 & SN11 both lit all 3 rather clearly for the flip & burn

(well... yes... but you could see all 3 were looking to ignite on SN11 when it went kaboom in the air)

but all 3 definitely lit on SN10 for several seconds for the flip

If I’m NASA, I send a clip of this to Bezos along with a note telling him to shove his lunar lander protest up where the sun don’t shine.

Liquid oxygen expands in volume 131 times when boiling at atmospheric pressure. Liquid methane expands 119 times. It doesn't take much extra propellant to make a lot of gas to get rid of.

You would think a bunch of baws from LA that work at chem plants would know this...

Starship has got to be pretty empty by now

at this point... we can call the vehicle safe and the test completely and wholly successful

China doesn’t GAF cause no one will stop them. Unless it lands smack on Beijing they won’t even address it

Elon is wagging his peen at all the world powers right now, bc he has control over anything to do about space travel.

Think about it. There are still countries trying to figure out rocketry. Elon is launching and landing shite on a regular basis.

I cant seem to find it and dont want to read through this entire thread. Where did they actually send the rocket? Just straight up and straight back down? Or did they actually send it to mars and back?

You know that HAS to completely embarrass a culture that's all about honor and being skilled at mathematics.

Here we are almost gloating that America can send a rocket into NEO and land it sitting straight up to be reused, while the Chinese are being lambasted by the world for losing control of their space junk

You know that just burns them up, and we'll see a shitty carbon copy of Starship in their future

Exactly. They’ve killed millions with the Wuhan virus, a few people with a rocket is nothing.
