Just some urbanites celebrating urbanite utopias

just some hilarious outtakes:

quote:

But how many of those situations actually evolve into a fight? And why should any of them? Physical fighting literally doesn’t solve anything — it just leaves people angry and bruised, or worse.

quote:

The 20th century mythos of the car as a vehicle that gave you freedom — to cross great distances, to discover new things, to leave your past behind — is perhaps now more accurately applied to the internet. There’s a pretty good chance you spend more time online these days than driving (ideally not at the same time, though), but the average person probably has little idea how any of the internet actually functions, let alone how to build a website or make an app.

quote:

Men just are the mechanics of the world, right? As with car maintenance, however, the idea that a man owns his house and should therefore know how to take care of it is increasingly an outdated concept. With most millennials having no real shot at home-ownership, there’s a good chance your landlord will be the one in charge of fixing anything that goes wrong in your place — or, more likely, paying someone else to.

Instead, Learn How to Decorate

It’s a sort of running gag in contemporary culture that women put a lot of effort into decorating their homes and filling them with the basic household necessities while men, well, sleep on a mattress lying on the floor. While it’s not as cut-and-dried as that, the average guy probably has some catching up to do with regards to interior design. It’s not something that women are innately better at, after all; it’s something that you can make serious strides in by committing yourself to

quote:

Workplaces of the future are likely to be less reliant on men’s top-down leadership and more dependent on open communication between coworkers of all genders and utilizes a lot of different peoples’ skill sets. Rather than a bunch of guys all competing to nail down a corner office, a healthy workplace is one where ego takes a backseat to communal success.

TLDR Summary:

1. Hunting should be replaced by cooking
2. Fighting should be replaced by meditation
3. Repairing your car should be replaced by coding
4. Fixing things at home should be replaced by decorating
5. Being a leader should be replaced by collaborating
6. Being a disciplinarian (parent) should be replaced by communicating w your kids
7. Holding your emotions in should be replaced by talking about your feelings

while not everything in this article is bad advice (like meditation, learning to deal with emotions, learning how to cook), the juxtaposition is just, often terrible. also the skills that are being criticized aren't all bad skills (leadership, being handy, etc) and the framing is often just ridiculous (like how fighting never solves anything or how leadership is patriarchal/authoritarian)

but the alternative suggestions are the best. yes just anybody can learn how to code. it's such a useful skill for people who have no need to code. so much more important of a skill than being handy around your apt/houe or car. oh yes meditation has no intersection wight martial arts, because they're polar opposites. design is like, totally not a feminine thing, guys. collaboration is how groups organize and are effective, that's what we've learned over time. it's all just a bunch of complete horseshite.

chalk this up as another "we are going to feminize society by attacking masculine traits" example

I bet $20 he either has a girlfriend that rams a purple dong into him, or a boyfriend that rams his dong into him.

idk about meditation, but I personally avoid fighting at all costs. Too many fricked up people out there, not worth it. Yes, I'm a pussy.

I'm not down with the rest of the list though.

Or maybe excel at all of this and be a true 21st century renaissance man.

Fighting has it’s place. The thing is to know when to walk away.

1) I dont hunt often but when I do its amazing
2) No way in hell I would not learn how to fight. Basic survival.
3) Why cant you learn both? Coding is important.
4) frick decorating. My brain is wired to fix shite, not pick 10000 different shades of color.
5) frick sitting on the bench, give me the ball.
6) My dad whipped my arse until I was 10. I turned out great!
7) No woman has ever gained more respect for a man who flamboyantly threw his feelings on the table on a daily basis. Any woman who disagrees is lying to you.

I don't see the point in replacing one with the other. The article seems like it wants/asking for controversy.

Let someone do the killing for you

Let someone do the fixing for you

Let someone do the deciding for you

I think most people do, avoiding fighting isn't a pussy move, but I'm not going to put myself in a position where if someone does attack me or my family that I won't be able to defend them, that's just stupid.

I've discussed this at length on this board, and while prices are high, owning a starter home is only difficult because "starter home" has become an outrageous standard.

So what do you do to prepare yourself for this? Are you training or something? Serious question.

exactly, the author in OP is just purely ignorant

kind of like how he ignores the meditative aspect of hunting
