Tried to have a discussion with a coworker on the difference in weights of snow: wet slushy snow vs dry powdery snow. Coworker is arguing that the weight of snow will never change, and that whatever amount of snow you get on your roof can never increase because snow is water and that amount of water will only decrease if anything as it melts. I told him he's absolutely wrong, because a cubic foot of wet slushy snow, or ice for that matter, weighs more than a cubic foot of dry powder snow. He did the typical millenial thing, and basically got angry, kept talking over me loudly so I would stop talking, and called me an idiot. About to head over to Sonic for lunch now, and planning to send my coworker an invite. Can anyone help me explain the logic of snow loads on my coworker?

Do your co worker remember like 6 or 7th grade science when you learned about density?

There are 100% different densities

Sometimes if it's not that cold it is like a slushie machine flood your drive and it water snow mix and a mfer to shovel

Powder is the best

The slush doesn't stack as high on your car though will run off

A cubic foot of snow weighs around 20 pounds, but the exact weight depends on the moisture content of the snow. The weight of snow can range from 1–21 pounds per cubic foot

For sure, the majority of people are pretty fricking stupid, shite I'm probably half a retard myself and don't even realize it. It's been the same for people throughout history and it has nothing to do with the year in which you were born

Dump a 5 gallon bucket of snow on his head and then dump a 5 gallon block of ice on his head and when he wakes up, ask if they weighed the same.

agreed, but the way gererations act to a situation differently is what I'm saying. I find that younger gererations, when losing an argument, get emotional and start trying to drown out the other person by getting louder and talking over the other person. Like a sky screamer, or woman. Maybe he needs to identify as a woman.

that's actually where the conversation started. I told him there wouldn't be a need for differing calculations is all snow weighs the same.

Sounds like he's never shoveled a driveway with 6 inches of powder or 6 inches of wet cement snow. Your back will tell you that there is a difference
